11/4/2006 Stoneman Lake + Area
North of Clint’s Well and south of Flagstaff is this swell area around Stoneman Lake. We found this neat-O picnic table with a nice view over looking the lake area. Although it is still hunting season we seen very few hunters.
We started out with temperatures around 58, notice the jackets, but not too cool.
OK, Stoneman Lake is better than Potato Lake but I doubt if you are going to see it in Arizona Highways Magazine as a place to go. It’s more like a little swamp hole. I have found that it is 1 of 2 natural lakes in Arizona. (Not to be confused with a "Wonder Of The World" type place)
(right) I understand the spotted owl thing and endangered species. This is BS when I have to be sensitive to a snakes feeling.
Your Tax dollars at work!
Forget the lake. The area around the lake is wonderful with great trails. It’s a funny time of the year, many of the tree have dropped their leaves but in the picture it doesn’t look that cold.
Once we got back in off the main roads several little groups of deer were seen . Further off the main roads we found this really cool abandoned ranch house, maybe 2500sqft. Judging by the construction I would say 100+ years old and so well hid it had No Bullet Holes.
In one of the rooms there was a remnants of linoleum. Judging by the pattern it could have been as new as 1940s. (really ugly)
Further in the woods we found this 2 room cabin, again very old with no visible bullet holes. I think this was a 1 room with an addition! This area was very nice to cruse around in. We seen no-one off the main road and it don’t get better than that!
(below)Yes, That is the moon coming up. We got loaded up just at dark and almost too late,,,,, again.
