Today i took a fellow REPU enthusiasts (jeff20b) suggestion and replaced my hood bumpers with rubber caps originally meant to cap off unused heater connections. I used 3/4 in and secured them in place with adhesive. They look a world better than the wad of masking tape that a previous owner had used.
I also took out both the relays for the flashers. I've been having trouble with these. The current problem is that i have no horn, hazard, or brake lights. i checked the fuse, it was good, and i have +12v present there. I removed and cleaned/filed both the relay mechanisms. The both are working fine, although i'm glad i serviced them. After 20+ years the flasher had about a 1/8 inch of metal that had transfered from one contact to the other making a irregular nipple on one and pitting on the other. I could get the hazards to come on by manually holding closed the two relays for each side. I removed the master combo switch and took the hazard assembly apart and cleaned it. no obvious problems there. I did discover that one of the wires from the brake pedal sensor/switch was disconnected, but when i reconnected it, still didn't work. as a temporary fix i've run a jumper wire from the +12v for headlights to the brake pedal sensor/switch and now have brake lights.
