A few years later, I had Robbie the body guy at La Jolla Independent perform an electric sunroof transplant from a 3 Series. While in the shop, I also had him replace the taillight panel from a late version 02 and bought a set of square taillights. We also added the correct badgeing, trim, and license plate pieces from a late model 02. Given the euro rear bumper with the license plate lights in the bumper, I really liked the clean look it now had. (It probably got to me the last time someone asked me if the car was a Corvair !!! ) Also added at this time was a new spoiler for the front.
Mechanically, the motor had come to it's end. The oil pump failed so I had it towed to La Jolla Independent where they rebuilt the motor. A stock cam was used and new bigger pistons installed. It really runs like a dream now.
