The San Diego Metropolitan Amateur Radio Club was established September 19, 1992. The organization was formed by hams interested in serving an underrepresented area of San Diego, California. 

The Club is an ARRL affiliated club and is a member of SANDARC, a coalition of San Diego area amateur radio clubs. In 1995 it received  an award for being the most improved club involved in Field Day competition in San Diego County.

The Club participates in San Diego County’s Del Mar Fair. There is participation in OMIK School Days, Special Olympics, and ARRL Field Day. Some members are active in MARS radio.
