"To Know Him . . . To Make Him Known" is more than our church motto, it is an excellent description of our reason for existence. We are here to help you know God through Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit and to know Him better and better over time. We are also here to make Him known in every possible way as we worship, study, pray, give and cooperate together. Since becoming a Christian is the necessary starting point in this glorious process, study the following statement carefully and make certain that you know Him as personal Lord and Savior. Then, come worship, grow and serve with us as the Lord leads.
How To Become A Christian
God loves you and wants you to have eternal, abundant life. The Bible says "For God so loved (you), that He gave His only begotten Son, that (if you) would believe in Him, (you) would not perish, but have everlasting life." [John 3:16] Jesus Christ said "I am come that (you) might have life, and that (you) might have it more abundantly." [John 10:10]
God loves you, but sin has separated you from God. The Bible says, "For all have sinned , and come short of the glory of God." [Romans 3:23] The Bible further warns, "the wages of sin is death (spiritual separation from God)" [Romans 6:23]
Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins so that you may have this eternal, abundant life. The Bible explains, "God commendeth (demonstrated) His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." [Romans 5:8] Even though Romans 6:23 warns, "the wages of sin is death (separation from God)", it also states "but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." The Bible further explains, "For by grace (God's unmerited favor) are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast." [Ephesians 2:8,9]
By receiving Christ as your Lord and Saviour you are given this eternal, abundant life. The Bible says, "as many as received Him (Christ), to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name." [John 1:12] You receive Christ and His gift of eternal, abundant life by inviting Him into your life. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if (you) hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in." [Revelation 3:20]
You receive Christ through prayer, as Romans 10:13 says, "whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Sincerely pray this suggested prayer, or one similar to it: "Lord Jesus, I need you. I am willing to turn from my sin. I believe you died on the Cross to take away my sins. Come into my life. Be my Lord and Saviour. Take control of my life and make me into the kind of person you want me to be."
As soon as you become a Christian, follow these three simple but important suggestions: (1) Learn more about Christ by reading the Bible each day (start with the book of John), (2) Talk over every detail of your life with God in prayer, and (3) Follow Christ in Baptism and become a part of the fellowship of His Church where you can worship, serve and grow with other Christians.
