MY THIRD COMPLETE YEAR WITH THE HONDA
CIVIC HYBRID
The third year for my Civic Hybrid has seen one major problem that was
corrected under warranty. I feel that it is safe to say that was an isolated incident, and
not representative of all Civic Hybrids. At about 30,000 miles the transmission developed a shudder when accelerating
from a stop. It was replaced by
the service department at Joe Marina Honda here in Tulsa. They were very knowledgable
and with the help of the Honda
Tech Line and a new transmission, were able to correct the problem at no charge to me.
Every thing else about the car
has been fine all year. You can see from the fuel mileage chart that I only took the
Hybrid on one trip to Indianapolis
this year. I bought another car in April and used it for my second Indianapolis trip.
The Hybrid will get fewer miles
from now on because the driving will be split between the two cars. The fuel mileage has
remained about the same as
last year. However, with the price of gasoline continuing to rise, the fuel sipping
Civic Hybrid will be a more
attractive option as the years go by. As stated before, the hybrid's engine starts with
the
electric motor and it's 144 volt battery system, and up to now, has never had to resort to
the conventional 12 volt starter that is there "just in case".

- Actual MPG for the year: 37.82
- Gallons Purchased: 254.728
- Total fuel expense: $456.71
There were two oil and filter changes during this third year. Also, the cabin and engine
air filters were replaced at the factory recommended 30,000 miles. All maintenance items
and inspections have been performed at the intervals specified in the owners manual.
It is still a great car to own, and a pleasure to drive. I am looking forward to many
more trouble free miles.
