MY FIFTH AND FINAL YEAR WITH THE HONDA CIVIC HYBRID

Hybrid This turned out to be my last year with the Civic Hybrid. Not because there was anything wrong with the car, I just got the bug for a different Hybrid. I made the mistake of driving a Prius for a day, and that did it. I just had to have one. So, now the Honda has a new owner. I hope he will enjoy it as much as I have for the last four and two-thirds years. The only services performed during the last year were in the nature of routine maintenance. An Oil change and brake system flush. I also installed a new 12 volt battery. The original was still working, but I didn't want to go into Winter with a four year old battery. There were no special problems to deal with. As was the case last year, my driving was divided between two cars, so the hybrid didn't get as many miles as it did during the first couple of years, I didn't use it on any trips long enough to require filling up at any stations out of my home area. One entry below shows Broken Arrow which is really just a suburb of Tulsa. The actual gas mileage for the partial year decreased by about three miles per gallon compared to the year before. Probably because the car didn't get driven in the warm months leading up to July first.

The original tires all still have at least 4/32 tread remaining and brakes show very minimal wear, in fact, at the last inspection, the back brake shoes had not completely seated in on the ends. With normal driving the brakes should last well over 100,000 miles before needing replacement. A large part of the braking is done by the regeneration that takes place when coasting and stoping.

My time spent with the Civic Hybrid has been very enjoyable. The fifth year mileage figures are shown in the table below and are complete up to the time the car was sold. I wish that I had done one last fill-up before the new owner got the car, but he was in a hurry and I forgot to do it. .
