Ropework at Papago Park

We met at Papago Park to practice rope work. The sky was dark with heavy cloud cover.
The parking lots around the mountains were closed, so we met on one end of the park
and had to hike a long ways through the park to get to the mountains.
We set up our gear on a lower section of the largest mountain, where we found some
bolts we could use for anchors.

From the top of the mountain, we could see it raining all around us, with lightening
striking in the distance, but all we ended up getting was a few sprinkles.

We practiced rappeling, ascending, some self belay techiniques, prusik techniques
and some knots.

Did you know that there is a way to implement a carabiner into a prusik so you can
use the prusik for a handle?

Well if you didn't know, this is a better time and place to learn than inside a cave
where you should already know it.

Dan got to use a Petzl stop for the first time and Rick and Robert rappelled and asc-
ended the big mountain next to us.

We all had a good time.
