A friend of mine had been begging me for years to do an oil for him.  He and his wife had been teachers and missionaries in Africa years ago, and he supplied me with slides of the animals.  He especially wanted an elephant in the painting.  With all the surrounding scenery, including a couple of zebras in the background, this huge, bull elephant stands in the foreground, stirring up dust with his front foot.  This is one of my finest works.
