Navigation/Communication Station

A 1998 Bayliner - 1950CL Capri bowrider

I relocated the original AM/FM radio/Cassette player to the aisle side of the pedestal and enlarged the original mounting hole in the dashboard for the AM/FM radio to make space for the Direction Finder and two VHF radios. I made a new instrument panel faceplate from Starboard material.

The radar and GPS Sounder are housed in a Starboard box mounted atop the panel. To clear the lip of the top surface of the dashboard, I screwed a length of Starboard to the top of the dashboard: the box is mounted to it with two pivoting arms; the right arm is slotted so that the box can be angled towards the center for easier viewing elsewhere in the boat.

The radios share one antenna, which is routed through an automatic switch. The primary radio receives GPS information from the GPS Sounder. The backup VHF radio is wired to the ADF receiver. The backup VHF radio and the radar receive GPS info from the GPS at the helm station. The holder is for sun block and a convenient place to keep the chart light and cell phone when not in use. There's a utility outlet in the radar GPS housing for a chart light. The black wire is for the headset: I plan on mounting a plug for it on the panel to reduce the length of the wire.

Note the fire extinguisher mounted on the gunwale and the logbook in the gunwale pocket.
