VCP Bill

I enrolled in this uniformed volunteer service in January 2002 because I was impressed by the knowledge and helpful attitudes of several Auxiliarists who taught me Boating Skills and Safety.

I first volunteered to take the responsibility for Member Training and was soon drafted to serve as Secretary for both Flotilla and Division.

During my first year, I also worked at the Marine Safety Office on Fridays, qualified as a Vessel Examiner, Aids to Navigation Verifier, and Boat Crew Member.

I have since qualified as Coxswain, Auxiliary Operations Specialist and Qualification Examiner. Additionally, I have been elected and served as Flotilla Vice Commander, Flotilla Commander, Vice Division Captain and now as Division Captain.

I get the most satisfaction from instructing in our Public Education Program and participating in Safety Patrols. We teach as frequently as twice a week in Boating Skills, GPS and Navigation. I'm normally on patrol in San Diego Bay at least once a week.
