Boy, it sure seems Will Ferrell is rising into stardom. What am I saying? He has. Since Elf he's appearing in more and more movies (Mostly Ben Stiller's). The same goes for Ben Stiller, who is returning to the screen, and staring in Ferrell's movies. And of course Vince Vaughn (Dodgeball) as well. These guys are funny, and they know you know it.
The first previews of Anchorman are a bit misleading. That is they don't nearly capture the hilarity of this movie. As you watch Anchorman you'll notice there's not much serious going on in it, and it gets wackier as the movie continues. And it sure is great.
Starsky and Hutch and Dodgeball were funny movies. Anchorman is even funnier. It tells the story of local San Diegan newsman legend Ron Burgundy, as only Will Ferrell can tell it. Burgundy finds conflict with the first female anchor on air, Applegate, who is stealing his solo airtime. What comes from this movie is a sense of humor that's unique and very funny. I was rolling in the theaters (a thing I rarely do). All the actors are funny. Especially Steve Carrel, who seems to adlib the most hilarious lines you'll ever hear. No, this movie doesn't always make sense, but it's funny.
There's not much I didn't like about this film. Some of the effects were cheesy, but that was certainly okay for the genre. At some points I felt it got a bit too wacky but then I remembered what movie I was watching, and that feeling passed. No, Anchorman is a great movie. It's great because it is what it is and it'll make you laugh. If you haven't already seen this movie, you should. It's well worth your money.
