Ever since I saw the photos of the new Catwoman costume, I've been dreading seeing this movie. Sure, Halle Berry looks sexy in it, but in that outfit, that's basically all she can do. I don't know exactly what makes the outfit distasteful, but it might be the fact it makes no goddamn sense why anyone would run around on rooftops actively in stilettos, scratched up leather pants, crisscrossing belt straps and a bra, other than to satisfy our own sick amusement (Which is a good thing).

When I say we, I mean men. This movie is radiating sex appeal, and it's obvious from the previews that this is what the movie is going to give you.

Well, I had my viewing of Catwoman two days after it came out. I went to see it at the mall with my girlfriend (who happens to like the costume by the way *coughhackgag*). This day was pretty much the first day I had been out of the house in five days. Five days earlier I had my wisdom teeth cut out. Two words. Ouch. (The second word isn't really a word, but more of a scream of pain). My jaw was still sore, but luckily this movie wasn't worse than the pain after my operation. The movie isn't horrible, but it isn't great. As far as relating it to pains in the mouth, this was merely some inflammation of the gums.

So the titles are cool. The most creative I've seen this summer. The score is already pretty good, with music by Klaus Badelt (Pearl Harbor, The Time Machine, Pirates of the Caribbean) I had to do a double take on this, because the whole movie soundtrack sounded like a famous modern pop singer did it. It was good, but it didn't seem Badelt at all. But hey, the man's good at what he does. So the plot is coming along, and I'm anticipating the scene where the transformation into Catwoman begins. The wait wasn't too bad though; the movie seemed to be telling me to be patient and the sexy dominatrix Berry would arise soon enough. Hm. Patience Price.

If you've read the comics or seen the 1992 Tim Burton film Batman Returns, you'll have a pretty good idea of where the movie is going. I'm a big fan of the Michelle Pieffer Catwoman, but there are two things I liked about Halle Berry's Catwoman. For one, the idea of her being resurrected and becoming cat-like is expanded upon. There's a whole culture of cat mythology that will be explained. The second, though the costume is a bit overdone, or rather underdone…because of the lack of material, parts of it do look homemade and perfectly possible for a normal, not-a-tailor person to do (Unlike Spiderman's outfit, where Peter Parker's powers from the spider bite included web slinging, spidey-senses, and super-tailoring abilities). For instance, the cat ears are from an artifact turned into a mask and the claws are from a stolen necklace.

One of the first things I noticed was that this movie was trying to be good for all gendered audiences. We have the very funny Alex Borstein as Patience's friend Sally, who throughout the movie ejects funny one-liners appealing to women, while also having Patience kick ass in various action sequences as Catwoman. Covering for both the male and female audience members. At the same time, this whole "sexy is power" idea is appealing to most of the women in the audience, while having the sexy Berry strutting it enough to please the men. Most importantly we have Halle Berry's character Patience who rises from a submissive, quiet woman, and becomes the dominant, do-what-she-wants black leather dominatrix the director calls Catwoman. This shows women everywhere that if you die, you can turn into a cat and beat up everyone that has pissed you off. Dare I say the perfect model for today's society? Girl-Power to the max. So get to it ladies. You can't live forever.

The plot is easy enough to follow, and it keeps within the PG-13 rating pretty well, without seeming to suffer at all from that. The violence isn't anything great, but the action sequences are cool, even though CG Halleys stand out pretty bad, but not as bad as CG cats in the film.

The blatant obviousness to this movie's aim doesn't require you to see the movie to grasp the concept. But it's sexy enough that you'll want to go see it, whether you're looking to see another female hero kick ass, or if you're just looking to see another female ass (And don't worry; there are plenty of ass shots in this one), Catwoman is all about being sexy, fast, and fun.

Likes: Catwoman kicks ass, Music, Camera shots, Midnight the Cat, and the homage to Pieffer's Catwoman (See if you can spot it)

Dislikes: CGI, Costume, Weak story

Rating: 3 tuna cans out of 5

Is it worth seeing?: Sure. Go see it.
