I just received an e-mail from Mark Lam, the CEO of Live365, last week that I would like to share with you:
"Dear Live365 Supporter,
I
wanted to share with you some of the help we are getting from our allies
on Capitol Hill. The goal is to keep the webcaster royalty issue on
the
agenda for Judiciary Committees in both the House and Senate.
Text of a May 21, 2008 letter from Senators Sam Brownback and Ron Wyden to Senator Patrick Leahy, Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee:
Dear Chairman Leahy:
Thank you for your commitment to work with us and take action on the Internet Radio Equality Act. Your comments during the Judiciary Committee's executive business meeting on May 9, 2008 were much appreciated.
As you are aware, the March 2, 2007 decision by the Copyright Royalty Board to increase royalties for Internet radio has put an entire industry at risk. The decision highlights a major flaw in current copyright law that needs to be addressed by Congress.
We have worked together to draft a fair and reasonable bipartisan bill that will give webcasters long overdue fair treatment under the Copyright Act.
We look forward to hearing from you regarding a hearing date and future markup of the Internet Radio Equality Act.
[Signed Sam Brownback and Ron Wyden, United States Senators]
Excerpt of statement from Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren during the June 11, 2008 House Judiciary hearing on the Performance Rights Act, H.R. 4789:
...the
industry that is in real trouble today is the Internet radio. Many webcasters
are facing royalty payments that are in excess of their entire revenues.
And the Arbitron data now shows that
Internet
radio listenership is falling.
We have 150 members of the House who co-sponsored a bill [the Internet Radio Equality Act] to take a look at that situation a year ago. And I would ask unanimous consent to put the letter in the record. We ask that we have a hearing on this subject. I think it is pretty essential to do so.
We'll keep on fighting for rate parity in Internet radio! Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Mark
Lam
CEO,

Internet/Whitester Radio is STAYING ALIVE, just like the BeeGees' song.
Ropatt is back with his 4th CD titled "Ropatt IV." Ron Patton (aka Ropatt) was born in Michigan and moved to Los Angeles, California with his twin brother Arnold in 1976 to write songs for Holland-Dozier-Holland Productions in Hollywood. In 1980, Patton co-founded Baywest Records in Northern California where he wrote, produced and arranged songs. In 2003, Ron Patton released his first solo CD.
From the "Ropatt IV" CD, listen for the tracks "Disappearance In Love", "Long Term Touch" and "This Is So." For more info on Ropatt, please go to http://cdbaby.com/cd/ropatt4
Fabio Mignola, Guitarist, Producer and Composer from Switzerland is back with a new CD entitled "Take Me Higher." To give you a little background, Fabio Mignola last CD "Flying Away" got some airplay on Whitester Radio-Smooth Jazz in 2004. A newspaper in Switzerland did a feature on Fabio and mentioned Whitester Radio in the article in the Summer of 2004. I really like what I hear from "Take Me Higher." Listening with a critical ear, this is a GREAT SMOOTH JAZZ CD from start to finish.
From the "Take Me Higher" CD, listen for the tracks "Take Me Higher","Sparklin'","Night Flight to L.A." and "O seu sorriso" For more info on Fabio Mignola, please go to http://www.fabiomignola.com
I've decided to add Karrin Allyson's "Double Rainbow" to the playlist of Whitester Radio-Smooth Jazz. Karrin Allyson was born in Kansas City, but raised right here in Omaha, NE. Ms. Allyson became a Jazz singer, songwriter, pianist, composer and bandleader who has won a couple of Grammys for Best Jazz Album in the 1990's. I've had the pleasure of seeing Karrin Allyson in concert 2 times as well as meeting her in person. I last saw her a year ago at the Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha with the Omaha Symphony Orchestra backing her. Karrin performed a song entitled "Double Rainbow" which goes to the tune of Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Children's Games" which was absolutely beautifully performed with the OSO. Ms. Allyson just released her lastest CD "Imagina: Songs of Brasil" which features "Double Rainbow" sung in both Spanish and English. I'm basically rolling the song up the Whitester Flagpole and seeing how many people salute. For more info on Karrin Allyson, please go to http://www.karrinallyson.com
