Welcome
Settle back in your chair, recall the sound of the goal siren moaning through the raucous din inside the San Diego International Sports Arena, and remember back to (perhaps) a simpler time and place...
WHL San Diego Gulls hockey.

his site was created as remembrance of things past: in this case the San Diego Gulls Hockey Club of the old Western Hockey League. I'll always remember the many games I attended with my brother Steve: eating Gull dogs (plenty of onions), hanging out in the North Concourse between periods, yelling at "Mad Dog" Madigan, the playoff road trips to Phoenix, Alain "Boom Boom" Caron crashing into the boards behind the net following a score, vocalist Mary Ann Escamilla, the games against the Russian National Team, Jack "Tex" Evans, the chicken-wire "plexiglass" and much, much more.

Faceoff!
Golden Eagles' captain Skip Krake faces off against Gulls' Tom Trevelyan

The Gulls played eight seasons in the WHL, and though qualifying for the playoffs each season except the first, never won a playoff series, let alone the Patrick Cup. Yet the attendance figures were staggering: crowds in excess of 10,000 rocked the Sports Arena. There was something about the Gulls in those days...

I hope that those of you who remember Gulls hockey will enjoy this site,
and perhaps (in the immortal words of Ron Oakes, Gulls broadcaster) you'll say...

"He looks...

he shoots...

he scores!"
