GUIDELINES and DEFINITIONS

PARTICIPANT GUIDELINES

The following participant guidelines are intended to promote fairness and competitiveness for the enjoyment of each participant. Members are expected to understand that when a newcomer visits or participates at an event for the first time, the event proceedings may be adjusted.  This is so that newcomers can be introduced to members, the types of cars being raced, how the event practices and races are structured.  Newcomers should also be accorded priority for practice time and technical help.

·         Everyone is encouraged to submit constructive suggestions or ideas that would make our racing more fun, fairer, realistic, competitive, or less expensive.

·         Everyone is encouraged to share technical or product information.  Information should be based on objective experience or trusted sources, not bias, hearsay, or rumor.

·         Everyone is encouraged to help promote a fun, fair, and competitive environment that should also provide opportunities to challenge and improve each participant’s skill and experience levels, if they are willing to strive to do so.

SPORTSMANSHIP GUIDELINES

The practice of good sportsmanship is expected at all times, exemplified by the following examples:

1.       Respect and courtesy for others at all times.

2.       Refrain from the use of profane or offensive language, particularly when guests, ladies, and minors are present.
* This is not intended as ‘censorship’ or ‘restriction of free speech’ – it is an example of the expectation of responsible exercise of that privilege, bearing in mind the
WHOSCAR mission statement.

3.       Never borrow parts or equipment without permission. Feel free to ask for help with parts or equipment.

4.       Provide equal track and lane time opportunity for others during practice.  Accord priority to guests, ladies, and minors; and to those struggling with car or other equipment problems.

5.       During practice, as a courtesy to other drivers, drivers should take turns serving as turn marshals, particularly if they expect the same courtesy.  The general expectation is one turn marshaling per one turn practicing.

6.       Never, ever raise your voice at a turn marshal.

7.       Remember, YOUR racing will be better off for practicing and encouraging good sportsmanship!

Turn Marshal Guidelines

1.       Do your best, learn and improve from mistakes; that is all we can ask.

2.       Be ready at your (assigned) marshal position prior to the start of the heat; hands ready, NOT in your pockets or holding something else.  Loose fitting clothing should be tucked in or rolled up.  Set your controller or other equipment aside – not hanging around your neck or in a pocket from where it might fall or hang onto the track.

3.       Focus on your assigned track area; do not watch the race or lap counter; avoid distracting drivers or other marshals.
Be aware of which car caused a wreck, the order cars deslotted, cars simply stopped to avoid driving into a wreck (it’s rare, but sometimes happens), and of oncoming traffic.

4.       First priority is to avoid hindering cars that are still running.  Deslotted cars should be removed as quickly as possible, and replaced when there is opportunity to do so without hindering oncoming traffic; delay if necessary to let it pass.

5.       Clear deslotted cars then return them to the track in the area they deslotted, but avoid replacing cars in track joints.
DO NOT advance them to make up for marshaling mistakes, riders, etc.; you may cause another wreck or delay the car.

6.       In multiple car crashes, cars should be returned to the track in the opposite order they deslotted. (First Off, Last On).

7.       If during the marshaling of a car, you ‘thumb’ another car out, the ‘thumbed’ car should receive highest priority.

Driver Rules & Guidelines

1.      Remember, these are TOY cars and we’re just trying to have fair, competitive, FUN  races.

2.      Do NOT yell at, verbally abuse, or distract Turn Marshals!   PENALTIES:

a.       Warning for first offense.

b.       Disqualification from the remainder of the current heat for a second offense during the same race.

c.       Disqualification of driver’s Series results for third offense during the remainder of the EVENT (even if not the same race).

d.       Disqualification for the remainder of the SEASON for a second disqualification from a Series event.

3.       DRIVERS, it is YOUR responsibility not to put your car at the mercy of a turn marshal, to avoid driving into wrecks or into positions to be wrecked by another car!

4.       Do not hinder the sight lines of other drivers.  (Some tracks may impose a “toe line” behind which drivers must stand.)

Pre-Race Practice

The following procedures and courtesies are recommended:

1.       Pre-race practice: Two (2) hours practice minimum; track power turned off at end.

2.       Pre-race practice rotations: 2 minutes per lane with 60 second lane changes.  Enough practice time should be budgeted that so that each driver has at least one, preferably more, practice opportunities on each lane.

3.       Practice sessions should be organized by racing class if possible to minimize speed disparities between cars on track.

4.       One or both of the following practice procedures may be used.

“Once On Then Off” Practice Procedure

1.       Drivers must marshal at the marshal position corresponding to the lane color they wish to practice on prior to actual practice.
(Except the first practice rotation, which shall be on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.)

2.       Drivers may not move to another lane for practice (unless it is open) without marshalling first.

3.       Drivers who have already practiced on a particular lane should yield to drivers who have not practiced on that lane yet.

 “Rotation” Practice Procedure

1.       Use ‘round robin with sit out’ rotation.  Set up driver order by random placement.

2.       Waiting drivers enter the marshal rotation in the first marshal position, then rotate through the marshal positions (including the ‘on deck’ driver station) to reach the first lane.

3.       After each driver completes the ‘rotate off’ lane heat, they exit the driver’s panel, then (re-)enter the marshal rotation until all driver rotations are completed.  If time permits, additional ‘open’ rotations may be run.

4.       Drivers who have already practiced should yield to drivers who have not practiced yet.

TJET CAR CLASS RULES

The Tjet car classes are based upon the original Aurora Thunderjet chassis, ‘pancake’ style armatures, and (replacement) parts.

TJet Box Stock Class

Body rules:

1.       The body must be a copy of a 1:1 car and/or concept car.

2.       Bodies must be manufactured by either the process of casting or injection molding and be made from resin or plastic. No feather light resin allowed.

3.       Bodies with cast-in handling pans or exaggerated details (such as unrealistic or inappropriate hood scoops, oversized windows, side pipes, sloped sides, or snow plow noses) are not allowed.

4.       Bodies must be originally manufactured with the intention of being mounted with the use of 2 screws via 2 body mounting posts on an Aurora Model Motoring (Vibrator, Thunderjet, Wild Ones, Tough Ones, and Xlerators), Bachmann, Faller, Model Motoring Thunderplus, Marx, Eldon or Tyco S series HO chassis.

5.       No Indy, Formula 1 or Formula style open wheel bodies allowed.

6.       No ballast or fillers other than color pigment allowed.

7.       Maximum overall body width is 1.200".

8.       The maximum thickness of the sides of the body (including fender flares and running boards) is .125".

9.       With the body mounted to the chassis and viewed from above, the body must cover the chassis except through windows and vents. Unrealistic or overly large windows and vents are not allowed.

10.   With the body mounted to the chassis and viewed from the side, the top rear edge of the gear plate (minus rail) cannot be above the body profile (see diagram below).

11.  The body must be fitted with the manufacturer's original or exact replica bumpers, heads, rollover bars, etc. in their stock locations.

12.   Cracked or broken body mounting posts may be repaired or replaced with the use of glue or a plastic sleeve around the original post or a plastic tube in place of the broken post.

13.   Other than the plastic post reinforcements stated in body rule #12, no additional weight can be added to the body.

14.   The body may be lowered and lightened by removing material through the process of grinding or scraping as long as body rule #10 is not violated. The body cannot be heated or reshaped from its original casting.

15.   Bodies that have a separate roof and/or windshield and have molded-in interiors may have the interior portion completely removed.

16.   Front and rear wheel wells may be opened up for tire clearance. This opening may be no larger than 1/8" around entire wheel well.

17.   Wheel wells must not be modified in such a way as to allow the use of a wheelbase not originally intended by the body manufacturer.

18.   Any body mounting screw may be used. Non-magnetic screws are recommended so a passing car will not pick up a loose screw, thus causing damage to the car and/or track.

19.   Both front and rear screws must be used and must secure the body to the chassis at all times.

20.   The windshield must be plastic or resin and must fill the window frame. Tape windshields not allowed. Side and/or rear windows may be removed.

Chassis rules:

1.       Only original Aurora Thunderjet chassis with non-plated copper electrical components are allowed. Brush springs may be bent to alter brush tension. Pickup shoe hanger plates may be slightly bent.
