Hello! Welcome!
This is Rebecca Suerdieck, founder of
the Williamsburg
Garland
Dance Team. I love all things English, and any excuse to put on a pretty
costume and dance. I learned about May Day and Maypole dancing as a child;
Morris and Garland
Dancing in college. I knew I wanted this in my life.
In college, I was very active in English
Country dancing, and for music and dance activities with the SCA. I moved to Williamsburg
in 1998 and became involved with Flying Bark Morris, based in Newport News, Virginia.
My husband and I danced with them for 5 years.
Several years ago, I started my own
team. I wanted to focus on English Garland dancing. So I learned all
I could from a neighboring team, Court Square, based out of Charlottesville.
They have been very kind, providing me with sheet music, recordings, and
dance instruction. I am forever grateful to them!
The Williamsburg
Garland
Dance Team is a nice group of ladies. You can usually see us at the Williamsburg
Christmas Parade, and at various events in the spring and summer. We are a very
informal group, with only 2-3 events per year. We practice several times a
year, in preparation for certain events.
If you love England,
old-fashioned entertainment and are looking to have some fun performing Garland and Maypole Dances,
please contact me. You’ll be amazed at how much fun you can have!
