Nurnberg Dependents High School first yearbook was in 1948. I have two yearbooks from the early years. Rather than layout thumbnails of each page I have decided to use the hypertext format to show the pages from the annuals. This way I can discuss each page before you see it. In the beginning the dependent schools of Germany consisted of 5 high schools and 36 elementry made up of 2,800 students. Check today's enrollment. of over 30,000. The Schools started classes on the 14th of October 1946. In '48-'49, Ned Pointer was president of the Senior class, Leo Kelsch was Vice President and Joan Purdy was Secretary. Mary Lou Johnson. was Student council President with Neuman Shaver, a charter member of the class. Joan Kay McCarter is now the Alumni Association rep. for the '40s. We had just under 100 students at the end of the year in 1949. If you didn't live in Furth, you lived in the Dorms. We had 35 students in the dorms.
The 7 dependent high schools combined to make one yearbook in '49, In the picture to the right, the Berlin bear is on top, reading from top to bottom left to right. Then Bremen and Frankfurt. The third row are Heidelberg, Munich, the largest, and Nurnberg. The bottom row is Wiesbaden Eagles.
In '48-'49 the Junior class were editors of the school newspaper, the Army Brat . Eric Olsen was president. Ed Thompson, shown here was a charter member of Nurnberg High.
Bill Petros was president of the sophomore class and yours truly was Vice President.. The sophomore class sponsored the Christmas dance at Stein castle.
Freshman, Robert Boutz was president of his class.
This is the first Nurnberg annual. I don't think they had one at Erlangen. Seniors , The yearbook was quite primative. The photos were pasted into the pages, but since we had only about 80 students I suppose that it wasn't too difficult to pull off. When the pictures were taken for the '48 yearbook there were just 66 students. Six seniors 21 juniors 15 sophomores and 24 freshmen. By the spring of 1948 according to the Army Brat, newspaper, the school had grown to something like 80. The Juniors Sophomores. Freshmen. This old school is still there on Tannen str. with the girl's dorm around the corner, backing on the park.
