Devil's Dream to South Puyallup 0810 7/16/01 Rained all night. Our gear is in fine shape. The new tent works like a champ. We're going to break camp and get on the trail soon. 1900 7/16/01 At South Puyallup. Running a day behind. Got here at 1630 -- too late to safely press on to Klapatche. We shared a campsite with a man and his son. They're doing the Wonderland Trail over 3 years -- this is their last year. Lots of people in camp -- many folks came in late. To buy: Waterproof bag for Lorraine's sleeping
bag and air mattress Used gaiters & rain clothes all day today. Emerald Ridge was very pretty. Bring water & trail mix. Rain test all gear next time. Saw a marmot upon Emerald Ridge. Got within about 20 feet -- he wasn't alarmed to see us at all. We need a few days of sunshine to dry everything out. Got to the suspension bridge at 1230 and got to the top of Emerald Ridge about 1500. We were supposed to be at Klapatche this night -- we were just too tired to press on the three hours to Klapatche, given the onset of rain and uncertainty about the trail ahead. This turned out to be a good decision, and was the only day we didn't make our assigned campsite.
