Golden Lakes to Mowich Lake 0718 PDT 7/18/01 Warmed up nicely once we got in our sleeping bags. Noticed I'm having the same hip abrasion that I had on the Olympics hike. Different hip this time (left). I'm sure it's caused by wet clothes rubbing against the hip strap of the pack. Didn't rain for much of the night. We have about 10.4 miles to put behind us today -- if the rain holds off, we should be just fine. 2054, 7/18/01 (Wednesday) Left camp @ 1000. Made good time all day. No rain! Got to Mowich River at about 1400. Sun came out, so our wet gear did too. Stayed there & had a hot lunch. Left about 1545. Got to Mowich Lake at 1930. Nice ranger cabin. Chemical toilets w/paper! Sleeping on gravel parking lot tonight -- at least there are sites! Better than "squatting" in a group site like last night. Realized this morning that the date on my watch is one day fast. I've fixed it, but most previous entries are one day off. I'll fix that in the post-trip write-up. Trail maintenance has been great. Didn't see a ranger today. Lorraine lost her hat yesterday, but has been doing ok. Water pump still not working. Will try to fix tonight. We had a bit of a break at Mowich River -- the sun came out for awhile, so we pulled a lot of wet gear out and dried it on the rocks and logs while we had a hot lunch. The three kids from Kansas -- the "three amigos" -- had the same idea.
