Mowich Lake to Carbon River Lorraine: 10:40 PDT (Thursday) Woke up to BLUE SKY and SUN! What a spirit booster. Talked about which route to take today -- go via Spray Park or Ipsut Pass. Decided Ipsut Pass b/c alternate route was a much tougher day (possibly much longer too). Have discuss (sic) a future loop hike beginning at Mowich and circling the loop. Lots of chatter amongst our fellow hikers: Jerry/Sherry (No. Carolina), Brad (Portland), the "Grumpy Old Men" (?) and the 3 young boys from Kansas. Everyone very chipper + drying out tents + clothes. Jeff thought hard about the pump problem + played with it this morning. He fixed it well enough to get a bottle pumped. He estimates the boiling of water (2 pots last night, 2 this morning; 1 lg, 1 sm both times) has used up the equivalent of 2 days of fuel. Last night had to zip our bags together for warmth. My bag was wet on the bottom + zapped me of my body heat. Put Jeff's dry bag under us + mine on top. Worked like a charm. Between the extra body heat and the 1 dry bag we were toasty in minutes. Off to Carbon River Camp today. Sun has now been obscured by more clouds -- oh well, at least our clothes dried out some!
