Carbon River to Mystic 0815, 7/20/01 Left Mowich Lake at 1230 yesterday -- up and over Ipsut Pass. Beautiful views but a killer descent. Seemed like we were never going to reach the bottom. No campground sign at Ipsut Creek. Got to Carbon River just before 1800. Made great time. Stayed at Site 2 -- Site 3 appears to have been obliterated by a tree fall. Very nice camp. Had a nice meal, got all our gear out, and got arranged for a nice snooze. Short, strenuous hike planned for today, as we head to Mystic. 0938, 7/20/01 Went through the first bottle of fuel this morning -- there's just a little left. Looks like one of our rodent campmates may have chewed through the mesh bag that holds our cook pots. Should be easy to mend. Saw a small hare go down the trail from Campsite 4, then about an hour later, went back up the trail. Didn't seem too worried about us as long as we didn't move too much. May have forgotten to mention the pika at Mowich Lake. Sun is out now -- we're making the final pack up efforts now. 5:01 PDT 7/20/01 Okay, so the sun was out. Jeff + I
