I started planning this hike around the time of our Olympic National Park hike in 1998. We both enjoy the Pacific Northwest, and like long-distance hiking. The Wonderland Trail seemed an ideal fit for all of these interests. Our custom is to alternate responsibilities for planning; I selected and planned the Olympic trip, she planned the Yukon/Alaska trip, and we took 2000 off for home remodeling. Itinerary (planned)

CachesNeither of us was excited about carrying a full two weeks worth of food around the mountain, so we planned to cache food at the Sunrise Ranger Station. Lorraine packaged the food in two bundles -- days one through eight went with us from the beginning; days 9 through 14 went into the cache. TransportationAirWe bought cheap, non-refundable tickets on U. S. Airways from Washington, DC to Seattle, WA. Lorraine bought these through travelocity.com, where we got a great price. Ground (shuttle)We took a van (Rainier Shuttle) from SEATAC to Longmire to begin the hike.
