Why is that guy "Just Standing There" Taking all that punishment?

It has been posed that an attacker, even when the tables are turned against him/her, wouldn't just stand there and "take-it" as it could be implied from watching a kenpo artist perform a technique. It could very well seem that way to the untrained eye. So let us examine the first few movements in slow motion of Master Womack's technique as it is shown on the MPG..

As the attacker approaches to perform the double grab or choke Master Womack ignores the hands coming at him and goes right for the throat up the middle with a tiger mouth strike before the attacker has a chance to get a good hold on him and while the attacker is playing, in his minds eye, the scenario of grabbing or choking. This effectively cuts off the windpipe and begins asphyxiation.  It also begins a gagging reflex as the windpipe is crushed.  This is not a difficult technique to pull off and you don't need that much force to gain a reaction from the attacker, yet a person with training hitting it hard will crush it utterly.  This force is assisted by the fact that Master Womack has advanced into the attack and thus catches his attacker off-center thus using his own force to combine with the attackers own forward momentum to maximize the power.

You might argue that this in and of itself is enough to end the situation.  It is and ending, destructive, killing technique.  However, in a combat scenario nothing is "perfect" no matter how much training or experience you might have.  Perfect technique in the dojo becomes sloppy technique when the adrenaline is pumping and you are urinating all over yourself because this person is attacking you.   Thus sloppy technique, while effective, may not stop the scenario but it would at least take the attackers mind from what he was doing (in this case a grab or choke), and place it to the gagging, coughing sensation welling up in his/her throat.

This all happens in the first 3 tenths of a second.

The next movement is difficult to see on the MPG because the camera couldn't keep up its frame rate with Master Womack's speed of execution.  Master Womack's next movement is a strike into the bladder / groin area.  Should he hit the bladder area in the proper angle and direction very serious things begin to happen immediately.  For one thing a very adverse drainage of energy and will to continue along with extreme pain.  Also but not limited to are effects such as knockout, kidney damage, extreme high blood pressure, weakness and in some cases death.  It is much worse than being punched or struck in the solar plexus.  Again it should be noted that in a combat scenario, even with training, this area may not be struck exactly the right way due to the scenario and thus while it will have an effect, the person may still be standing.  His mind, however, is no longer on attacking you but rather on his own body and it is distracting him.

We are now at  4 tenths of a second. and have examined 2 movements of Master Womack's technique.

The next movement is again to the throat because the strike to the bladder region has most likely exposed the neck since his lower region was pushed back by the strike to the bladder area,  his head comes forward exposing the throat.  Master Womack proceeds to attack it again in the same manner as in the second paragraph above. Again either damaging the windpipe further or at the very least keeping the attackers mind traveling up and down his own body.

We are now at 1/2 of a second into the technique.  The attacker is off-balance (off-center) and while he attempts to mentally deal with all that is happening to him he must also re-gain his center (balance) in order to perform an offensive or defensive action.  This is not possible because....

Master Womack strikes again into the side of the neck in such a way as to cause the persons blood pressure to be adversely affected

We are now 8 tenths of a second into the technique.

Master Womack follows this by sandwiching his head with one hand and fiercely smashing the other side of his neck with an elbow strike, possibly hitting points powerfully that will lead to death or knockout.

We are at 1.2 seconds into his technique and the attacker never has a chance to respond because this type of vicious attack into the attacker continues until the attacker is no longer a threat. The situation is ended.

This type of self-defense attacks the very psyche of the attacker.  It disables the attacker physically, emotionally, and mentally.   The attacker has gone over in his head many times the scenario of attacking someone, maybe you.  His version of the story as played out in his head involved terror, and submission on your part.  He was playing his video one-way.  His mistake was in giving Master Womack the window of opportunity to end the situation by using overwhelming technique traveling up and down the body so the attackers mind was always 2 steps behind what was actually be done to him.  One movement sets up another, and so forth.

It should be stated that these techniques described here on this page and shown in the MPG's are performed by very highly trained martial artist who have years of training behind them.  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PERFORM THESE TECHNIQUES WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING AND / OR SUPERVISION BY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL!  VERY SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH CAN OCCUR FROM THE IMPROPER PRACTICING OF THESE TECHNIQUES!
