''ONCE UPON A WHITE CHRISTMAS"
I always dreamed of Christmas snow, a yuletide's pure delight,
but nature only deemed it so...just one time in my life.
There was a usual atmosphere that bound our southern town,
producing fair and balmy air..when Christmas rolled around.
We rarely ever saw it white, and never Christmas Day;
that gleaming, brilliant awesome sight, that takes your breath away!
So, I never rolled a ball of snow, or "snow-man'' to enjoy,
or snow-ball fight with friendly foe when I was just a boy.
And Santa Claus, while on his round, I wondered every day;
"How on earth he came to town, with no snow there upon the ground,
to drive his deer and sleigh"?
Until I heard a song relate, a "red-neck" note it struck;
that Santa used a special freight, without snow to accumulate,
to drive a pick-up truck!
So back into the realm of time, to one white Christmas day,
back when I was only nine, a blizzard came our way.
And I recall that Christmas Eve, when snow-fall took it's toll,
the town was caught in disbelief, both from the young and old.
We had no fancy sleds to ride that came from any store,
we were caught in sheer surprise that never came before.
But there was fun for all us kids, we had our own device;
we used for slide-- old trash-can lids, and car tires for the ice.
And grown-ups joined in merry fun, as snowballs filled the air,
and joy came to everyone in jolly Christmas cheer.
Then mama made some ice cream snow, as Daddy dressed the tree,
and tied a letter that would show,
for Santa Claus to see.
So, therein went my Christmas snow, when one dream had come true,
and I won't forget that heart-felt glow..
that once came passing through!
