"The End Of A Busy Day"
+ + +
There's an emptiness that lingers
with our our home in disarray,
from little, busy fingers
tearing tinsel foil away!
+ + +
The smiles upon their faces,
the gleams within their eyes;
their pounding hearts embraces
the secret of each prize.
+ + +
The shrill of little voices
that filled a gleeful air,
within my heart rejoices
as I view the wrappings there.
+ + +
But now they have departed,
at close of Christmas day,
the family we started,
have gone about their way.
+ + +
The silence that surrounds me;
my lonely thoughts unfold;
brings back my childhood memory
of Christmas days of old.
+ + +
Now time is of the essence,
each year our children grow;
our grandkids and their parents
have lives to live, I know.
+ + +
But another day is coming,
and soon it's New Year's day,
our heartstrings will be strumming
when they come again our way!
