Brief Synopsis of Edge of Tomorrow:

A breathtaking thriller glued together by an unforgettable love story.

At the height of the Cold War, Bob Hatcher was the CIA’s top assassin.  A master of disguises, and fluent in several languages, he lived in the world of the Company’s deepest Black Operations.  In 1983, while in West Berlin, he spots a beautiful East German intelligence agent and for fun pursues her in an attempt to bed her.  Instead, he falls in love and makes arrangements for her to defect to the U.S.  Fearing that his best agent will quit if this defection goes as planned, the Director of Black Ops, James Gramble, betrays Hatcher by letting the East Germans know about it.  Discovering the betrayal, Hatcher reacts violently against everyone involved — East German Stasi agents, KGB agents, and CIA agents.  He kills all of those involved except Gramble himself.  He extorts CIA money from Gramble which he uses to start a new company (International Intelligence, Inc., or Triple Eye) and starts taking over the intelligence business in the U.S.  Hatcher, under his real name, Van “Hatch” Lincoln, runs Triple Eye, and secretly becomes an international vigilante against the world’s terrorists.  Then in 2001 he meets Sydney Steppe . . .

A MOSSAD assassin who has lost her cover, Sydney is hiding in Florida. Syd thinks it’s her lucky day when a handsome stranger at the next table helps her dispatch two Iranian terrorists that attack her at a restaurant. She is pleased to find out that Hatch Lincoln is a very rich and powerful man — CEO of a dozen companies, including the enigmatic Intelligence International, Inc. (Triple Eye).  Fearing Syd is still in trouble, Hatch takes her to his Florida mansion.  Syd soon finds herself engulfed in Hatch’s secret world of intrigue, one of high-tech equipment and weapons used to search out and neutralize terrorists worldwide.

When a Triple Eye employee is killed while buying a mysterious letter from an archeological dig outside Rome, Syd finds herself swept into a dangerous, whirlwind adventure.  She accompanies Hatch to Rome to investigate, and while in Hatch’s medieval castle, she finds herself fighting alongside Hatch against a vicious Italian crime family, the Sicilian Mafia, and a CIA boss who wants Hatch dead.  When an assassin’s bullet leaves Hatch in a coma, Syd must use all her training, experience, and the high-tech tools of Hatch’s empire to find the assassin before he strikes again.

Edge of Tomorrow was awarded coveted Editor’s Choice status by iUniverse editors:

Edge of Tomorrow was submitted to the iUniverse Editorial Review process and was awarded Editor’s Choice status.  A few excerpts from that review follow:

“Stimulating and exciting, a real thriller.”

“One of the best aspects of this novel is its strong structure.”

“No normal reader will be bored or put off by this book. The plot is so well handled so as to involve the readers constantly.”

“We need good adjectives to describe the pace of this novel. Sometimes it changes from intellectual contemplation to quick-paced actions but the two are interrelated.  At times, the pace keeps the readers on the edge of their chairs. Sometimes it is spine chilling. And some of the scenes are simply emotionally draining. One thing can be said with certainty: There are no dull moments in this novel.”

“Since dialogue is the hardest part of a novel to write, it is always a pleasure to find a novel filled with dialogue that is natural sounding, well modulated, and pertinent to the characters’ personalities. Wootan’s dialogue is exemplary.”

This is a superb novel falling totally into a new category—Anti-Terrorism.  And the subject is presented in thrilling and spine-chilling episodes.”

“. . . the scene of half nudity on the South Sea island owned by Hatch is evocative of the best of Gauguin.”

“The description of the castle fits some of the finest I have ever seen in any part of Europe or Russia. It is for me especially befitting of Paul’s castle about 49 miles east of St. Petersburg. “

Midwest Book Review gives Edge of Tomorrow 5-star rating in their review:

The prestigious Midwest Book Review gave Edge of Tomorrow 5 stars in its March review.  The review may also be seen at Amazon.com and at the author’s website.   The review follows:

Wolf Wootan is a man of many talents himself, having worked for forty years in the computer industry, including publishing documents and books for clients in the government. He is also a former Air Force fighter pilot. He lives in Southern California.

Sydney Steppe is a woman for all seasons. Having earned a Ph.D. at Harvard, she speaks many languages, has been a member of MOSSAD, the intelligence for Israel, where she carried out assassinations of a terrorist group that was responsible for the death of her parents in a bus explosion. Sydney is in Florida, trying to forget the dangerous part of her life, but the terrorists are there to try to make her remember. She attracts the attention of Hatch Lincoln, himself a former CIA assassin who has made billions by forming his own intelligence company. Little does he know that Syd will figure in his future and come in handy in a fight:

"'Good shooting, Syd! Or should I say ANNA? Shadow-4 is in the air. They should be overhead in a minute. Let's try to take him alive, see who sent him. We can guess who, but I would like to verify it,' answered Hatch. 'This could provoke me into some very lethal action, and I want to be sure who the target is.'"

Put together a sexy professor and a "hunk" of a spy and you get the connection between Sydney Steppe and Hatch Lincoln (and all his aliases). Their talents leave audiences jealous; their looks are everything the reader could hope for; and their missions are of the highest caliber.

Edge of Tomorrow is a gripping and entertaining spy story with nods to James Bond and Tom Clancy. It is a touching love story of two people who have been forced to live on the edge and have lost loved ones. Finally, it is a rip-roaring and bawdy tale of excitement and adventure sure to keep the reader's nose stuck to the book. Wolf Wootan knows whereof he speaks. He has a great sense of humor; real knowledge of weaponry and special ops; ties in his experience with computers for a humdinger of a denouement; and has enough lovely sex scenes to make a nun blush. His description of exotic locales where the action moves is superb. Wootan is a great writer who should keep it up in this genre...no pun intended!

Written by a former Air Force fighter pilot who has written and edited hundreds of documents and books for clients in high-level government positions and commercial companies, Edge Of Tomorrow is a captivating thriller that follows a MOSSAD assassin who has lost her cover. When the wealthy CEO of a dozen companies comes to her rescue, she is drawn into the deadly world of intrigue surrounding him, and her training is put to the test against her protector's would-be assassin as well as far more insidious opposition. An exciting novel of secret plots, lethal revenge, and debts of honor to be paid.

Murder and Mayhem Book Club  5-Star Review:

Hatch Lincoln was a NOC (no official cover) assassin for the CIA.  He was the most feared assassin in the world.  When he was double crossed by someone in the CIA, he started his own business of providing Intelligence to governments.  He hired some exceptionally talented individuals who developed fantastic technology and soon his business began to grow.  He kept expanding to other related fields and made even more money.  Soon he was the richest man in the world.  But he never lost his instincts for detecting trouble and finding ways to defeat his adversaries.

When Hatch went to the aid of a woman being abducted by two Iranian terrorists, he had no idea how his life would change.  Sydney Steppe was a most unusual woman.  Her background included college professor of languages, especially Middle Eastern languages.  What very few people knew was that she had also been an assassin for the MOSSAD.  She and Hatch are drawn to each other from the very first.  Hatch’s business has some interesting secrets that could easily cost his life.  Since Sydney’s meeting and continued relationship with Hatch they seem to go from one life-threatening ordeal to another.  How long can they continue and stay alive?

“Edge of Tomorrow” is an exciting spy novel.  It takes Hatch and Syd to many parts of the world where they fight bad guys, help the good guys, make use of fantastic, hi-tech spy tools, eat, drink, love, and try to stay alive another day.  It is an exceptional spy adventure and will be enjoyed by anyone who likes heart stopping danger, romance, intrigue and hi-tech gadgets.

Romance Junkies 5-Star Review:

In 2001, Hatch Lincoln has traveled a long way from his days as CIA agent, Bob Hatcher. Hatch is a wealthy man who owns many companies, including Intelligence International, Inc. (Triple Eye). He has known many beautiful women since the early 1980's when his beloved Kat was killed, but has never felt close enough to any of them for more than a physical relationship.

When Hatch meets Sydney Steppe, a former MOSSAD assassin who has lost her cover, and helps her fight off two terrorists who attack her at a restaurant, he is intrigued by her, as well as being charmed by her beauty. Syd finds herself drawn into Hatch's Triple Eye world of high tech devices and secret missions to flush out terrorism. Hatch and Syd begin a fast paced ride that takes them to many exotic locales, which hide danger behind beauty.

Mr. Wootan's exceptional writing style has the unique ability to appeal to both men and women readers. There are gizmos galore, covert ops and a hefty page count for male readers who are Tom Clancy fans. Female readers will be charmed by the chemistry between alpha hero Hatch and the strong, yet passionate heroine, Syd. Both characters are fully fleshed out and believable. It is refreshing to see a hero and heroine who are a bit more mature and not just twenty-somethings. The story comes alive with rich detail and the pacing is perfect. Although profanity is used, as would befit a novel about terrorism, it is not gratuitous and overdone. Too many authors and screenwriters these days use profanity to the point it is no longer effective, but simply grates on the nerves. Mr. Wootan has a more subtle touch. EDGE OF TOMORROW would make a wonderful action film.

Mr. Wootan's bio states he was an Air Force fighter pilot, has been an entrepreneur in the computer industry and has written and edited for government and commercial companies. That background, along with evident research, makes EDGE OF TOMORROW a highly entertaining book that deserves a wide audience. Mr. Wootan's website says he is working on a sequel. I wish him much success and look forward to reading more by this talented storyteller.

Typical Reader’s Review:

Edge of Tomorrow by Wolf Wootan is an incredible mix of adventure, mystery, and hi-tech fiction. Since I am an avid fan of all three subjects, I couldn't resist diving into the world of Triple-Eye.  Mr. Wootan has the ability to bring a level of technology to his stories while also keeping his readers along for the ride. Other authors have tried and failed where the Edge of Tomorrow succeeded.  As a member of the aviation community, I would like to applaud Mr. Wootan for the obvious amount of research necessary to create such a believable and interesting hi-tech background.  I found myself actually believing in the possibility of a stealth helicopter hovering over the homes of terrorists undetected.  I hope Edge of Tomorrow is just the beginning for Wolf Wootan. I am anxiously awaiting the next chapter in the lives of Hatch and Syd or anything else Mr. Wootan wishes to give us.
