Guest Essays

by friends of James E. Henderson

I have taken a number of writing classes and workshops in the last few years. Most of these have been offered to seniors like myself. Some of these people have gone through hell: poverty, abuse, drugs, illness, losses, sacrifice. Others have simply lived in times that differ greatly from the present, times that will never come again.

Their writing differs greatly in quality but the surprise is that so many of the stories and essays are written so well. I've placed their stories here because they have no Web pages of their own and their stories deserve to be told.

Author Title Description
Fellow Oasis writing class member Henrietta An Experience In Church Memories of an experience growing up in a small town that taught her the value of dignified demeanor.
Fellow creativity class member Jean Zammarchi. The Human Condition Writing can be therapy. This free-form poem is a cage door being opened after a lifetime of imprisonment so a spirit can try freedom for the first time. It is rough because of what its writing cost the author, reflecting the transformation made.
