why i commute by bike As I mentioned on the opening page, I started commuting to work out of necessity. We had moved to Santa Barbara with only one car. I lived less than two miles from work and it was a pretty flat ride. After a while, it was just natural. I loved riding my mountain my bike down State Street in downtown Santa Barbara to and from work. I got to work and I felt invigorated. I began to use my bike to get around at times other than my work commute. It was so much more convenient to ride my bike downtown rather than take the car, go through the hassle of finding parking, walk a distance from the parking lot to where I was going, pay for parking, etc. I just rode to where I was going and locked my bike. Eventually, cycling became my exercise routine. I started with weekend rides with buddies and graduated to long-distance rides on a road bike. In the last three years I have ridden in six century rides. Last year, our company moved to Goleta and my commute went from two miles to ten. I still commute by bike most days. Why do I commute by bike to work? My own wellbeing. Plain and simple. That it's healthy for the environment is a bonus. To learn more about commuting to work enter here: commuting quickStart.
