Nevada Workers Against
the War (NWAW) was formed in March 2004 to protest the first anniversary
of the invasion of Iraq. Its purpose was to give ordinary folks
a way to publicly protest Bush’s disastrous war, carried
out in our name and with our taxes. It was formed by labor union
activists with years of experience running peaceful protests,
so that people who may never have demonstrated against anything
could have a chance to speak out, safely, together with like-minded
people.
Our underlying principle
is patriotic dissent. We believe it is our duty as Americans to
criticize our elected officials when they do not act in our best
interests, and to vote them out of office when they deserve it.
We want the United States to be the best country in the world,
and we believe that occupying smaller, weaker nations that do
not threaten us is not what America stands for.
Our current
theme is Support Our Troops--Bring Them Home.
NWAW is a
flexible group, composed, by and large, of busy working people
who do not have a lot of time to waste. We have no fixed members
list, no dues, rarely hold meetings, and have no time for endless
blogging. (Many of us don’t even know what blogging is.)
Membership consists entirely of whoever wants to be a part of
the next action, either by direct participation, or by contributing
in some other manner.
