The World Wide Christian Web - Past Editor's Comments

I'm often asked by those who are not Christians: "What makes you think that your religion is right, out of all the religions in the world?" The problem with this question is that it attempts to compare two different types of things and use probability on them. What the person asking is trying to say is that if there are, say, 10,000 religions in the world, Christianity has a 1 in 10,000 chance of being right. The problem is that you can only calculate such a probability for equally weighted things. So, if Christianity has 1,000,000,000 times more evidence for it than any other religion, what becomes of your probability? Even this is misleading because if a religion is proven false by science, history, self-contradiction or some other means, it has a zero percent chance of being correct. If a religion has little evidence and directly contradicts a religion that has been proven, it also should be deemed incorrect.

Most religions have been proven false by science, history, self-contradiction or some other means. Therefore, they must be eliminated when searching for the truth. Any religion left is shown to be false by a comparison to Christianity. Christianity has logic, science and history on its side. For a few of the many proofs for the reliability of Christianity, see Astronomical Evidences for the God of the Bible by Dr. Hugh Ross or The Existence of God and the Beginning of the Universe by Dr. William Lane Craig or something I wrote (I am by no means the mental equal of Dr. Ross or Dr. Craig) Modern Cosmology Reveals the Existence of God.

I even have a problem with calling Christianity a "religion." It not only invites false comparisons, as I mention above, labeling it seems to cheapen it somehow. Christianity is what we call the plan of the creator of the ENTIRE universe that allows us to spend eternity with Him. It is an offer that, if accepted, allows each one of us to fulfill our purpose of existence. We were created in God's image and we are meant to be with Him forever. None of us know what it would be like to be TOTALLY separated from our creator. But it's up to us. We can choose not to spend eternity with Him.

Some people accuse God of, "sending people to hell." That's not the case. God went to every extreme to help and ease our choice of an eternity with Him. He even went so far as to become like us so that He could pay for our imperfections. How much easier does it have to be?

If you are not a Christian and you've read this far, I commend your open mind. Perhaps something inside you is telling you that things need to change in your life. Perhaps you feel the need to prepare yourself for that which exists beyond death. Make no mistake, there is an existence beyond death that is every bit as real as this existence. Everyone has a longing in their heart to discover their purpose and to fulfill it. Your purpose is to spend eternity with God. That is the purpose of us all. What a privilege, what an awesome gift it is to be able to spend eternity with the creator of the entire universe! All you have to do is ask God for this great gift. It is a gift that will literally last forever.

I want to learn more about how I can have a relationship with the creator of the universe.
