The World Wide Christian Web - Past Editor's Comments

What Happened to Faith?

This may seem like an odd topic for a web site that specializes in the presentation of evidence, using science and logic, for the existence of God and the reliability of the Bible. But faith is very much a part of everyone's lives.

There are two things Christians must realize when it comes to faith. First, faith that is not based on evidence is called "blind faith." Blind faith is not necessary to be a Christian. Blind faith is not only possessed by religious people. Often, blind faith is more prevalent in scientific circles than any other. Christians can have faith that is not blind. Second, faith must be retained when ones evidence is questioned. It is this second point that I will expand upon further.

In science, a theory is not automatically disproved as soon as a competing theory comes along. Through testing, a theory is shown to be supported or not. So why is it that so many Christians doubt their faith every time a new "scientific" theory comes along? For example, every once in awhile, secular scientists feel it necessary to make a premature announcement of some "discovery" that shores up the theory of evolution. When the dust clears, these "discoveries" are never what they seem to be and the theory of macro evolution continues to go unproven. But such announcements, time and again, do not fail to cause some Christians worry, as if their beliefs were tentative at best. I have met many atheists and agnostics that have a faith most Christians would envy.

I want to impress upon every Christian, through this web site, that we have nothing to fear. Our evidence is good. The fact that God created the universe and each one of us is undeniable. To peruse just some of this evidence, please check the WWCW Q&A page. Never forget, history has shown us that when the Bible and science disagree, it is science that has been found to be wrong, time and time again. So when science comes up with a new theory that contradicts what we know is true, we can rest assured--we can have faith--there is something wrong with the new theory.

Peace to you,
