It never ceases to amaze me when this proposal is made during a debate on the existence of God. At the same time, it is very telling. On one hand, someone arguing against the existence of God will almost always claim that it is only science and logic that drives his or her opinions. On the other hand, they seek refuge in an idea that is not logical or scientific. We know, logically, that every real thing must have a cause. Why propose that the universe is the exception to this rule, especially when we see such incredible design in the universe and in the laws of physics themselves? Motive is the only thing driving the idea that the universe is an uncaused thing. This and all other completely fabricated explanations for the origin of the universe are driven by the conscious or subconscious desire to cast doubt on the existence of the creator. Atheists become extremely motivated when, as is often the case, the only obvious answer to a logical and/or scientific question is that a creator exists. Einstein, when faced with the idea that the universe is finite in age was displeased. Arthur Eddington said, "the notion of a beginning is repugnant to me..." An uncaused beginning to the universe opens up too many unanswered questions over the more logical explanation that an intelligent designer was involved. For example:
