The World Wide Christian Web Turns 5 Years OldCHRISTIAN INTERNET WEB SITES COMING OF AGEby Mark Harpt, Senior Editor of the World Wide Christian Web SCOTTSDALE, Arizona --- The history of the Christian church is replete with examples of resistance by apprehensive and fearful parishioners and leaders to emerging technologies. In the late 20th century, all that began to change with the popularization of the Internet. Since the dark ages of the Internet (five or so years ago), Christians have stayed on the cutting edge of that emerging technology. The World Wide Christian Web is a good example of a Christian site that has utilized cutting edge technology to fulfill the great commission in a very literal fashion. This April, the World Wide Christian Web (WWCW) will be celebrating five years on the Internet with free giveaways and much fanfare. Several major book publishers have already donated materials to help the WWCW celebrate their birthday. The World Wide Christian Web was probably the first Christian organization to add a Virtual Reality site. Over the years the WWCW has headed the pack with the use of JavaScript, portable functions, a verse of the day function and much more. The WWCW continues on the cutting edge with recently added support for wireless devices like WML-enabled digital phones and PDAs (see http://www.wwcw.org/wapindex.wml). "Here at WWCW, we try to stay on the technological cutting-edge to gain credibility with the fast-moving, tech-savvy Internet community," says Mark Harpt, Senior Editor of the World Wide Christian Web. He continues, "Such credibility helps open doors that allow the gospel to reach those who would not ever consider darkening the door of a church." Mr. Harpt comments further, "We are here by the grace of God and will continue to do what we can, with God's assistance, to fulfill the great commission. We would love it if all good Christians organizations followed suit, as many have over the last few years." Toward that end, the World Wide Christian Web offers free web site kits to allow other Christians to develop a presence on the Internet within about an hour (given their Internet Service Provider allows them to host at least a modest sized Web site). The WWCW also fields questions on anything from apologetic to Internet technologies. The World Wide Christian Web can be found at http://www.wwcw.org and can be reached at wwcw@wwcw.org. ------------------------ The World Wide Christian Web (http://www.wwcw.org) is an organization dedicated to spreading the Good News to the lost via the high-tech medium of the Internet. It also stands as a major resource for fellow Christians with Q & A, scientific and logical defenses of Christianity and the existence of God, insightful editorials, prayer requests, free informational services and much more. The World Wide Christian Web does not accept donations or advertising and does not sell anything on their site. They are privately supported and are not affiliated with any other organization.
