Bible Q & A
Can the lifelong pursuit of science lead one to discover God?After a life-long study of the cosmos, one of the world's most renowned Cosmologists found himself face to face with God. In a recent article entitled, "Science Finds God" (July 20, 1998, p. 46), Newsweek put it this way: "The more deeply scientists see into the secrets of the universe, you'd expect, the more God would fade away from their hearts and minds. But that's not how it went from Allan Sandage." That's not how it goes for many scientists - and more each day. Sandage, who described himself as "almost a practicing atheist as a boy," accepted the reality of God because of his study of the universe when he was 50 years old. "It was my science that drove me to the conclusion that the world is much more complicated than can be explained by science," comments Sandage. Sandage is but one of many atheists whose science lead to a belief in God. Many top-notch scientists, who have an open mind and a desire to find the truth, eventually find themselves in the same position as Sandage. The Newsweek article mentions but a few of them. Scientists from the likes of Don Page, who has collaberated on projects with the likes of Stephen Hawking, to Charles Townes, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics, are accepting the evidence that the universe must have had a creator. The evidence for the existence of God is overwhelming and it eventually comes down to a decision whether to accept or reject the evidence. One can attempt to go through life with blinders on or one can act on the evidence. In an attempt to act on the evidence, one might ask, "If God exists, who is the God that exists?" Through careful study, the creator of the universe is most definitely the God of the Bible. I want to learn more about how I can have a relationship with the creator of the universe.
