Bible Q & A

"The Bible seems to have many contradictions. For example, Judas' method of demise."

In Matt 27:5B, it says "...Then he went away and hanged himself."

Acts 1:18B says "...he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out."

Does this contradict? Not at all. Here are several possibilities:

1. Judas could have hanged himself up by impaling himself. This would explain the guts mentioned in Acts. In parts of the OT, these words were somewhat interchangeable. We particularly like this explanation because it's a perversion of Jesus hanging on the cross. The devil, who was in Judas, always perverts the truth.

2. The more likely explanation is that "hanged" means "strangled" or "hanged." After the body is hanged, unless it is taken down by someone, it's going to eventually fall "headlong" and guts will spill.

We suggest every Christian have a good Bible commentary to help answer these types of questions.
