THE BEAST IS GONE!!!
Luckily I backed it up!
My backup is designed as a CD distribution, it is contained in a 63.3MB zip file that when unzipped and stored on a hard drive or burned to a CD results in a local working copy of the entire beast.
It is now available to download: aibeast.zip (63.3MB)
New! Since there is renewed interest in "Alternative Reality Games", and I have access to some webspace, the link above now works!!! (as of June 2006)
If you got web space to spare and would like to mirror (the more mirrors we have the less we have to worry about bandwidth costs), write me.
Any Problems or Questions, write me at xocxoc@yahoo.com.
Here is the introductory page for the CD distribution:
This CD contains the whole of the AI game as far as possible. Obviously these web pages will work a bit differently than they would on the internet, but they are here for posterity. Many of the password prompts will work just like in the game, others are disabled, being too problematic to implement off line. The advantage is, that if you forgot a password, just view source and find it in the code (or just open the page you are trying to get to). Here are the included web sites, and changes (if any) from the original web edition. All sites except as noted below are as they were at the end of the game on July 23, 2001. There are no content changes to the pages only implementation changes. As far as I know there is no missing content.
Global changes:
* All loki pieces and shatter pieces have been removed where possible, and the ones that remain will not work. This is mostly an aesthetic change (the pages look better without them).
*wherever possible all links direct to pages on the CD and not to internet pages. A few links embedded in SWF files will not work.
bangaloreworldu-in.co.nz
* All places where you type (faculty prompts and Mowz puzzles), you must hit the select button. You cannot just type your answer and press return.
* All faculty prompts for each department are the same. You can type Jeanine Salla in any department and get the same response.
* Clicking Jeanine Salla's email will display a page with her auto response message.
catskillseaviewclinic.org
* You do not have to type any name in the dream pad prompt just click monolith, bee, budda, skull and you are taken to a page with links to individual files.
inourimage.org (no difference)
thevisionary.net (no difference)
www.7to1.net
* On UAN submission page, you do not have to enter anything. Clicking submit will take you to auto respond.
* Cybertronics link will not work (embedded in SWF)
www.aleph-naught.org
* too difficult and kind of pointless to implement off line, there is a new enter link that when clicked will open Sophia's eyes and take you to the emo-grid.
* all of the original responses were in HTML format, but some were posted to the web database in TXT format. Since conversion and redownloading are too time consuming, they remain in TXT format.
www.badmetal.net (no difference)
www.belladerma-srl-it.ro
* Clicking on anyone on contact page brings up the fax that is automatically sent out.
* On UAN submission page, you do not have to enter anything. Click submit will take you to catalog.
www.cliniquedelille-fr.dk
* Entering anything in the dossier prompt will take you
to Bev Gilbert page.
www.coronersweb.org
* All name prompts have been replaced by a drop down menu (after I did this I figured out how to do the name prompt, but this interface is so much simpler, so I left it)
www.cutofthevoid.com
* The four Hayate prompts do not work. You do not have to type in anything, just click the Japanese submit button.
* A translation page can be found
www.cybertronics-corp.net
* A record of all e-mail auto responses can be found
* You must hit submit in room number prompt.
* Link to 7to1.net will not work (embedded in SWF)
www.denkendeneshaus-de.dk
* Translation pages
* IASA prompt takes you to a ballroom winner page
(ballroom contest pages cannot be implemented on CD)
www.donu-tech.com
* E-mail links go to a page containing all auto response
messages for Donu-Tech.
www.downandoutcafe.net
* The Ruf Justis video is in hi-res WMA format, you will
need Media Player to view it.
www.electric-toyland.com
* Contact link brings up auto respond html message
www.elizas-tearoom.net
*The source of this site is so heavily based on an
outside server, that it is impossible to duplicate on a client side. This is
"kinda" like Eliza, but no where near close.
www.familiasalla-es.ro
* Submitting email address just brings up an auto response from Mephista (does not submit anything)
* Links to all known Laia e-mails have been added to the bottom of the main page
* Meditations appear in chronological order, with a
"Next Meditation" link at the top
www.familychan.org
* Cloudmaker's confession page has link to translated version.
www.ita-es.ro (no differences)
www.katenei.com
* The Log video is in hi-res WMA format, you will need Media Player to view it.
* Spelling correction "doorkeeperof" has been
changed to "doorkeeper of" (this error on PM's part initially
prevented solving oversees puzzle)
www.martinswintondesigns.com
* martinswinton.com no longer exists, all one happy web site now.
* smack_index has been conveniently replaced by slightly revised version of xocxoc's slideshow
* knock, knock has been changed (it is easy, but you can view source if you don't know it)
* Diary entries are now in chronological order, with "next entry" link on top. "Previous Entries" only appears on last entry
* The second to last diary entry had filenames that are too long to work on CD, their original names are in alt tags.
* The Election Night video is in hi-res WMA format, you will need Media Player to view it.
* Link to English katenei.com on Ivy page will not work (embedded in SWF), but link to Japanese version will work.
* IASA prompt takes you to a ballroom winner page (ballroom contest pages cannot be implemented on CD)

* Ballroom page just goes to ballroom winner page
(ballroom contest pages cannot be implemented on CD)

www.rational-hatter.com (no changes)
www.rogueretrieval.com (no changes, tried creating auto response page for "contact us", but mail server no longer responds)
www.spcb.org
* There is a new rk.htm page that is the bios shadow page with links that work with the CD
* encoded pages created by RK have links to their translated versions
www.unite-and-resist.org
* UAN request pages have been removed (cannot be implemented on CD), as well as all links to those pages.
* Not necessary to click on agree or disagree to enter member only pages.
* Summary and response of RUR-14 can be found at its old address
www.watchtower-security.net (no changes)
Other content:
* A copy of Loki!
* There is some additional player created material such as web sites Cloudmakers.org, and shipbrook.com along with i-monks "6 degrees of Evan Chan", xocxoc's "Cloudmaker's Rolodex", and fuzzymelon2k's TP Web SPEC, that was so spot on perfect, it sent the PM's into panic mode. None of these are linked up with the CD.
* There are phone messages, and the Oliver Wicks e-mail, and a transcript of the MSN chat with Sean Stewart and Elan Lee
* There is some additional content and pictures scattered throughout, you'll have to find yourself (hint, hint).
Thanks to:
The PM's that created the content
The Cloudmakers that discovered it all and solved the puzzles.
Johnny J. Young for tracking down some missing files (Loki)
Ben Solo for hosting the 64 MB file.
The Cloudmaker's Rolodex is part of The Xocxoc Pages, my home website devoted to math, philosophy, 3D graphics, and movies.
