Xtrak Medical’s Thrombectomy Device (XTD)

Long lesions commonly combine Atheroma and thrombus that are angiographicaly indistinguishable. Angioplasty of the entire lesion may yield an unstable lumen and causes distal embolization during or after the procedure. The XTD is designed to selectively remove the softer part of the lesion and leave the hard atherosclerotic plaque well defined for precise angioplasty.

The XTD is a fully disposable device with one rotating component in the form of a highly flexible shaft rotating at ~12,000 RPM. The shaft’s distal section, that extends from a plastic sheath, is curved. As the curved section rotates it hydrodynamically attracts thrombus and macerates it. The resulting particles are aspirated through the sheath into a syringe while the rotating shaft also keeps the particles from clogging the sheath.

Status

The XTD has been developed, tooled, patented and commercially validated for use in AV grafts. Use of the XTD in other vessels would require additional regulatory clearances. For example, such additional clearances could be sought for:

§       Clearing the softer thrombotic portion of long lesions in vessels above and below the knee to define the underlying atherosclerotic lesion for effective angioplasty and stenting.

§       Clearing long lesions found in coronary bypass grafts that are currently untreatable. Over half a million coronary bypass grafts thrombose annually.
