The Hippocratic Method
(This is the practice of containing knowledge of medical advancement in detailed writing to pass along.  Essentially it is a textbook.)

My web project is based on the Hippocratic method and the practice of it and the influence it has had on the history of medicine.

I am interested in the relationship of the symptoms and the resulting treatment for those symptoms.  I know of Hippocrates, but I have also read that he likely was not the sole writer of the Hippocratic corpus.  I have learned a few things about the subject in the past weeks, but I chose the topic because I wanted to understand much more thoroughly what I did not previously understand.  The point of doing this project, in my eyes, is to fully understand an aspect of the course and then to pass along that understanding to the people who read the pages I create, similar to how I will learn from their pages.  I feel that this project has been a great success in its intended purpouse.

My goal was to examine how the Hippocratic Corpus changed the practice of treating symptoms and also how the ability to diagnose symptoms progressed through medicine.  I wanted to learn how physicians and pharmacists work together to keep the body in harmony.

I believe others are interested in this subject because they are interested in the history of the treatment they receive.  Also many people go to the physician and never understand that there is a progression that got them to the level of expertise that they are at today.  I feel I have helped people to understand much of the beginnings of that progression.  Finally people seemed to be interested in the information simply because I made the episodes entertaining and attention grabbing.  I hope that the way my material has been presented will intrigue others who read the episodes..

For the ancient time period I have two episodes that I have produced.

The first of the ancient episodes is entitled "The Hippocratic Corpus."  This episode contains information on Hippocrates and the style used for corpus which he is attributed with.

The second episode I have written is over Galen and his methods.  The episode contains information on the errors Galen passed on and why they were not his fault.

My final two episodes are from the medieval period.
The first of the medieval episodes is focused on the four humors.  The episode explains what the humors are and why they were important.
The final episode is about Avicenna.  Avicenna was an important part of the hippocratic tradition because he wrote many books on the subject of medicine.

I wrote this entire project in a journal style.  The premise of the project was that I went back in time with a time machine I invented.  I then used the episodes as entries into the journal.  The study of the understanding of medicine was the stream that wound its way through the project.  Though I have to say the story style was definately what held the episodes together.
