Below are some common enhancements that can be made to the Yak-50.
| Rounded Wing Tips: As opposed to the squared off ends or the wing shovels (see photo on N63RA page for shovels and standard wing tip). | |
| Smoke System: Also great for chasing bugs off the airport. | |
| Roll Bar: Installed just in case (see photo on N63RA page). | |
| Three Blade Propeller: Provides more climb than a P-51. | |
| 400 hp engine: Even more performance. | |
| Large Side-Entry Baggage Box: Somewhere to put your overnight bag. | |
| Canopy Lock: We don't have a locking ignition, so this is the next best thing. | |
| Cleveland Brakes: For those who don't like air brakes. | |
| Panel Mounted Radios: Rather than hanging below the panel, also pull-type circuit beakers. | |
| Navagation (Night) Lights: For cross country night flights. | |
| Iris-type Shutters: Instead of the louvers like the Yak-55M. | |
| Added Air Bottles: Just incase. | |
| Exhaust Extensions: So you don't have to eat your own exhaust. | |
| Tinted Canopy: Keeps the greenhouse cooler, and provides better visabilty. | |
| Back Deck Storage: All that space for something. | |
| Stream-Line Spats/Fairings for the wheels: Instead of just having them hang down. | |
| AOA Computer & Lights: Angle Of Attack computer with pilot visual reference lights (usually 5, three green, one yellow, one red -- See N63YA new cockpit photo next to the G-meter on top of the panel -- not on this page). | |
| Long Range Fuel Tanks: Boy, what a life-saver. Two types: Internal tank next to the normal tank and external tanks (see photo of Travis Kelley's wing tanks below). |
