The following is a note received from Ed Dvorak:

Dear Shipmate:

I have seen the notice of a reunion for the USS Harry E. Yarnell. I was on the Yarnell from commissioning time in Bath, Maine. I'm sorry I cannot make a reunion as I go to another reunion for my very first ship every two years. I retired from the Navy a Chief Gunner's Mate in l971. Some of the names and people I remember were Chief Forrester (Sonarman) Lt. Babcock, Lt. Mack, and of course GMG 2 Space Reese, and of course many others. All this brings back memories. As ever, your shipmate, Ed Dvorak

EMO fm 9/89 to 8/92 where I learned the true meaning of the SWO handshake in the Happy Harry's wardroom. Thank God for my wife who brought me dinner every duty day or I'd have had to eat the all time worst food ever served to humankind even in port. Had a couple of great roomies, including "In the dark" Mark (CWO2) Dryer, who helped keep me sane. Thanks also to the world's greatest ET's, DS's and IC techs who made life easier by doing a fantastic job day in and day out. Who can forget two BALTOPs in a row followed by SNFL '92? I still am in touch with several of my old shippies and I work in the Norfolk area as a contractor. Didn't hear of the reunion until too late, or I'd make it to Philly.
Anybody know what happened to my all time favorite XO, LCDR Tony Barbieri, he of the memo'd in PRT scores?

I served on the Yarnell from Sept.1983 to Oct.1987. I worked on the 48C Radar. I remember the 83-84 Med Cruise: Rio de Janeiro, being off the coast of Bierut, Blue Nose & Shellback. I was also onboard for the 86' med cruise: Benidorm, Spain; Palma de Majorica; Sicily, and of course our many stops in Naples. I also remember salvaging the tail section of a downed F-14. I have pictures, perhaps I can scan and post them. I made Chief at SSC/NTC, Great Lakes in 1988. I left the Navy in May, 1989 and now work at a nuclear power plant in Illinois. Great Site!!

I was on the Yarnell two times. I went aboard in the Med in mid 1976. I had to have surgery in 1977 so I left the ship and the Navy. I came back in Mid 1977 I think and stayed to retire in July 1980. I have some fond memories of the ship, but I will have to admit that some of them were not the best of my Navy life. But I managed to retire and I have enough time in Civil Service to retire again. Great web site. I just found it today on the 4th of July. Happy Birthday USA 225.

Howdy fellers! I was on board HEY from May 76 to Nov 78. I was a disbursing clerk the first Med cruise, and a night baker the second Med cruise. I don't remember much, except we used to get wasted on liberty. :-) If anyone remembers me, give me a hollar.

I was Communications Officer on Yarnell in 68-69, as part of the "balance crew" during the ship's refitting with NTDS (it seemed like such a hot computer then, and seems so primitive now!) Shortly after recommissioning, I was released from active duty due to budget cutbacks by the Navy as public support for the Vietnam effort wound down.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of CDR Stewart A. Ring, who was XO during this period, and headed the "balance crew" in Norfolk?
