Ginny's Guide To Making VCD Copies with Nero

"Nero makes it easy to copy VCD's. It's easy, and they taste real good too!"

Making a VCD that is playable in a DVD player is very easy. This guide will walk you through the very easy process using Nero. If you have different CD burning software, like Roxio Exact Audio Copy, the overall process is the same, but the steps are different.

Grab the VCD you wish to copy, and place it in your CD drive.

(optionally, you can have your cat lick the disc first)

"Its a good thing Matt is making a copy of this disc, because I don't like Memorex discs!"

Open Nero, and cancel out of any wizard that appears. If the "New Compiltion" box pictured below doesn't appear, select "New" from the "File" menu and it will appear.

On the left side panel of the box, scroll down until you see CD Copy. Select it (by clicking on it).

Make sure you pick the "CD Copy" icon, and not the "Video CD" icon below it.

"Mmmmm... I can almost taste that freshly burnt Fuji VCD! I can hardly wait!"

Click on the "Copy options" tab.

Ginny recommends unchecking the "On the fly" check box just below the tabs. Using "On the fly" can lead to nasty buffer underruns, which will cause your VCD to become a coaster for your kitty to lick.

"I just love licking these "coasters". Maybe I shouldn't tell you to uncheck that box" (Editors Note: Ginny has plenty of discs to lick. It is still best to uncheck "On The Fly" box.)

Instead, we will have Nero create a CD image on your hard drive. Now click on the "Image" tab (its the first one).

From the Drive drop down box, select a drive on your PC that has enough free space to temporarily hold an image of your VCD. In most cases, it will be okay to use your C: drive. Make sure the "Delete image file after CD copy" box is checked if you want Nero to remove the image once your VCD is copied.

Now, go back to the "Burn" tab. Select a write speed from the "Write Speed" drop down (slower write speeds can result in discs that are easier to read for some older DVD players). Make sure "Disc At Once" is selected as the Write Method. In the "Number of Copies" box, enter the number of copies of the VCD you want to make. This is useful you are copying discs for a Yesswap weed, and need to make three copies, you can enter the number "3" here, and you won't need to create an image of your VCD three times.

Click Copy and you are on your way...

You should see a screen like this pop-up. You can see here that Nero is saving an image of your VCD to the hard drive.

"This is so simple, I can do it with my eyes shut!"

Once the image is created, you will be prompted to insert a writeable CD:

Insert a blank CD.

In a few seconds, you should see the "Write CD" box pop-up

"My brother Oliver likes to watch the burn process, to make sure nothing goes wrong"

Nero will then magically turn your blank CD into a copy of your VCD! Once it is finished writing, if you are making multiple copies of the VCD, Nero will prompt you for more blank dics. Keep feeding it (just like you'd feed your cat!)

"Oliver doesn't know the joy of licking discs! He sticks to ordinary boring cat food!"

When you are done, you will get a message box saying the burn completed successfully.

Remove your newly burned VCD and test it by putting it in your DVD player.

If all worked well, your new VCD should begin playing.

Thats all there is to it!

It's so simple to make VCD's properly, there is no excuse for sending out bad ones.

"Anybody who sends bad VCD's will have to deal with me!!!".
