Jungle Friends
"In the Jungle, the Mighty Jungle,
the Lion Sleeps Tonight"
Our mighty jungle is alive with the wild creatures who delight us
no end with their uniqueness, brave heroics, and hilarious antics.
We share with our internet friends the "wild things" living in our jungle.
Sweet Pea aka "The Queen"
Female "Torbie" Tabby, born 1986

Rescued as a kitten from going to the pound, she is at 14,
our oldest, wisest and crankiest "wild thing". She is a
bona-fide love addict and would do anything for a pet from
her favorite person Lisa. In her earlier years, no bird
was safe from her stalking. As an exclusively indoor kitty
now, her bird-days are over
(she still looks longingly out the livingroom window!)

Romeo aka "Paper Boy"
Male Brown Mackerel Tabby, born 1998

Abandoned by his mother and rescued by Arizona Cat Rescue
(and then by us!), curiosity is his game, ever-present
when making the bed, unloading groceries, or reading the paper.
Newspapers are his favorite form of entertainment---
whether sleeping on them, burrowing in-between the pages
or scattering them everywhere---have newspaper will travel!

Don't let these sleeping angels fool you---
When they play, their names become "Mischief" and "Mayhem"!

Rusty aka "Bucket Boy"
Lisa found him at the neighbor's house across the street Jasmine aka "Dances with People"
Jasmine's disposition is as sweet as her name! If she had a Nutmeg aka "Desert Scout"
She was another rescue from an imminent visit to the pound. 3 Amigos? 3 Musketeers?
Male 85 lb Akita mix, born 1997

with his head stuck under the fence. He was immediately banished
from their home as a trouble-maker and happily made his home with us.
He grew and grew and grew---biggest dog we've ever had.
His favorite way to show affection is to place his paws on both
shoulders and give your face a "kiss"! We think of him as our
"monster dog" with a monster heart. He's called "Bucket Boy"
because he loves to chew up buckets. Figure that one out!
Alpha-Female 75 lb Unknown Mixed Breed (Wolf-Dog?), born 1995
Wolf as a parent (doesn't she look like a wolf?), she wouldn't
fit the stereotype of having an unpredictable disposition that
wolf-dog mixes are rumored to have. She adores us, would sleep
with us if she could and loves a good rub on her belly. With a
gorgeous "wild" look, (her masked face is a show-stopper),
people sometimes stop to gaze at her in awe. She's definitely
a pack-oriented animal, taking the female dominant role over Nutmeg.
Female 35 lb Shepherd-Chow mix, born 1994

She is a striking dog, looking exactly like a miniature German
Shepherd with a curled tail. On a night with a full moon, she barks
at the shadows in the yard---so shy, yet fiercely protective.
With her sensitive hearing, she's our look-out---always the first one
to scope out "danger". On our walks in the desert, she reminds us
of a "scout" dog---always out front leading the way.
3 Stooges is more like it!

In Memory of Twinkie ---"The Princess"
Female Lynx Point Tabby
June 1, 1982---October 30, 1998

"Close to my heart you will always be . . .
Friends forever, you and me."
Lisa says: "I found myself at the pound one day, took one look My Princess,
at her and fell head over heels. One of the best spur-of-the-moment
decisions I ever made, she was to be my companion for the next
16 years. She had so much charm, personality and dignity---
even until her last days. I called her my "crying kitty"
because on those occasions when my tears made their appearance,
there she was, from wherever she'd been, purring and dancing
as if to say, "I'm here for you." I'll always miss her on my
pillow, look for her to greet me, and remember with fondness
how many times she made me laugh!"
I'll look for you in Paradise . . .

In Memory of Angel
Female Tawny Spotted Ocicat
February 12, 1999---September 24, 1999

"Close to my heart you will always be . . .
Friends forever, you and me."
We named her Angel because of her beautiful Angel Face.
Have purr, will travel---she was the perfect companion. Her
favorite sleeping place was in the middle of your chest,
purring so loudly, we'd wonder how a kitten so small could have
such a loud purr. More of a bounding pouncer than a jumper,
playing was her game, and feathers her prey. What surprised us
most about her was her occasional "meows" that sounded more like
the throaty growl-meows of a jaguar! You could always find her
during the day on a sunny windowsill or at night curled up next
to me--under the covers!! She loved being held like a little baby---
cradled in the crook of your arm---so unusual for a cat!
She was a favorite companion to us all, she touched all of us
(she even won over our grouchy "The Queen") with her sweet,
gentle ways. We were grateful to have known her
and we will miss her always.

My Angel,
We'll look for you in Paradise . . .
