Today on our Kerb (stoop, curbstone) we take up the pen to answer the letter from brother Philipp. Cordial greetings to everyone from me your Brother-in-law and your sister and we are grateful that you have not forgotten us.

Now a little about our family. Our son, your godson, had completed his 4 years of service as a soldier and returned home. But at the outbreak of the war he had to go back again and served throughout the war until the beginning of the Revolution, the he came home again. Jacob, our second son, had also served for the old government for a short period but during the war he only served under the new government and never came under fire. He was eventually taken prisoner by the Whites on the Ural Front. For 1 1/2 years we heard nothing from him and thought he was dead. Then we got a letter from Tzaritzen saying we should come there to see him.
At that time the Reds had again re-taken Tzaritzen.
Your godson and my brother's son took two horses and traveled to Tzaritzen to
visit him. It will soon be 2 years past and they have not returned and we have
had no news of them. Jacob however, still serves in the A
