An Appeal from the
Huck,
To our Huck kinsman in
Dear brothers and sisters:
The newspaper reports of the last months as well as the private letters that you received previously from your old homeland, bring you the bad news of new miseries in our homeland, that for three years have again confounded us. Unless/when our government through some seed division and (...............sentence obscured................................) in this way the situation in our region has become much more difficult. Think on it, those here who get up with difficult troubles and go to bed with difficult problems are your fathers and mothers, are your brothers and sisters, are they in their bleeding spilling your blood. -- Your wholehearted "edle" (ed. note: word meaning unknown) assistance, that you and yours in the years 1921 and 1922 had caused to be delivered, awoke in us the hope that in this difficult year you would sacrifice and be ready to help. General assistance aid is admittedly for the time being not desired, but everyone here with close or distant relatives can help them by sending money.
It goes without saying, that in such a time where nine tenths of all the families have to struggle in extreme distress, arrangements for general assistance have suffered and the church suffered before all of them. The community (ed. note: most likely referring to the local government) badly failed it and was of little use. Salaries for the servants of the Word (Pastor and Schoolmaster) were deleted. That for the long winter, essential fuel (burning material) is not procured, associated with this, means are lacking for any essential repairs. We members of the Huck church council, who take care of the church organization as a first priority, for the aforementioned problems, ask of you: Help us maintain our church organization. Individuals among you have already through contributions helped us take care of much of the church's needs in the previous year. So, if you would also be prepared to make a new sacrifice for the church, to the many of you baptized and confirmed and to those who were married here, to the many of you who through the years also received beneficial encouragement. Gather yourselves together in the villages where you live and send your sacrifice, the best way that you can, to Schoolmaster Rusch's name. We are very grateful to you and will give you a strict accounting for the expenditure of monies.
With greetings and best wishes,
Pastor Friedrich Wacker
Schoolmaster Jakob Rusch
