Meet the Village Coordinator
Let me introduce myself. My name is Delores Schwartz. I'm the village coordinator for your village of Huck. Some of you have either met me or corresponded with me through the mail.
I had one grandparent (Johannes Hoffman) from Huck. You may read about this in the first issue of the Die Huckere.
I can't remember a time when I didn't know that all of my grandparents were from the country of Russia. I was born in my Hoffman grandparents' home in one of the two German-Russian communities here in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Before AHSGR was founded, I was very interested in my heritage and continue to be. When I was notified that an organization was being formed of Germans from Russia, I immediately became a charter member. My employment with AHSGR was the most interesting, enjoyable and fulfilling job that I've had.
I hope you enjoy this first newsletter and I'll look forward to hearing from you.
Origin of the Die Huckere
At the last convention held in Lincoln (1994), a name for a Huck newsletter was discussed on Village Night. This year in Minneapolis, it was a unanimous decision to call the newsletter "Die Huckere."
In order for a newsletter to be successful, I need help from all of you. Please send family and/or individual stories and genealogy charts. Tell about contacts in Russia or Germany or any travels to either of these countries. Send photocopies of pictures you'd like to share. All of these things will help make the Die Huckere a success.
Village Cards
Village cards are located on pages 3 & 4 of the newsletter. The cards show the code number of anyone who has ever been listed in the Surname Exchange indicating that their ancestors came from Huck. This list has been provided to the village coordinator from the international headquarters of AHSGR.
