Holy smokes!  It's been awhile.  Schools keeping us all busy I guess.  Well...a lot has happened, but I'll be brief!  I finished my recital (woo hoo!!)  and it went really well and Kristin did amazing as well.  The section is getting along great, I'm really happy that we're like big, trumpawumpa family.  Sadly, however, one of our own, Adam Huryta, has been deployed to do service over in Iraq.  We just had a going-away party for him.  We'll miss him dearly.  He was a special part of our section, a guy always wearing a smile when everyone else wanted nothing more but to punch someone.  Thanks for everything, Adam...you've been more than you think for this section.

Summer is over (basically) and marching band has kicked up.  I have the roster site updated and have now begun to include non-trumpet majors as well, expanding our site significantly.  I'm really excited about this year and hope to get many pictures up soon.  Sign the guestbook...keep your eyes open for new contests!!

Summer is going well.  I moved out of my house and that is awesome.  Not a lot going on.  The page will kind of be on break til' Marching Band kicks up.  I will then update the roster with the new majors.  Hope everything is going well.  Look forward to seeing you all!

Woo!  So what's happened lately?  A whole bunch I would like to think!  We've had three concerts of which I know!   The jazz bands "Big Band Dance", the SWE "Benefit Concert", and the Brass Ensembles concert just yesterday.  I'll give a brief review of each.  The big band dance was a lot of fun.  It was the largest group, or it seemed so, since the jazz band started this two years ago.  Jazz II, and MAYJO, and Jazz I all participated on this dance.  Jazz II featured our very own "Mickma" singing a jazz standard.  What a gal!  Everyone played well and it was cool.

The Benefit/B-Day concert went great.  It was so awesome getting to see all of the alumni and getting to play with some great people!  It really was amazing hearing some stories but also seem some old faces.  I think the group played well for the most part, and everyone had a great time, especially at the following reception in which we got to see Saker through the years of his life via slideshow.

Lastly, dos Pistoes de Omaha participated in the only concert of the semester yesterday with the brass ensembles.  This concert went a little rough for the group.  From the player's perspective, it seemed to go terrible.  Upon speaking to audience members, I learned that it was not as bad.  I had a couple flubs as did others, but...life goes on and I still had a great time in rehearsals.  It was a difficult piece as well, and I look forward to hopefully playing more in the future with the group.  I'm so excited with the attention that this page is getting.  We got our first Prospective Student entry in the guestbook...so, Kim...you rock!  It looks like we're gonna have an awesome group next year.  Keep checking out what's going on.  Toodles!

So it has been quite eventful lately!  I've been really busy because I've been working two jobs at both Krispy Kreme and now Schmitt's Music Center which has been really awesome learning about so many things.  But!  The jazz band just returned from their trip/tour to North Texas and it was awesome.  The drives were quite long, however.  BUT!  They seemed shorter because of many card games of which I partook in...and miserably lost...oh well...Dr. Madsen kicked my butt.  On the trip, trumpet wise, were me, Fat Chops, Gravy Boat, Strappy, Hot Potato, and Brent "NoName" Lindeman (sp?).  The concerts and performances all went really well.  The combo did exceedingly awesome as well.  We were also able to see some awesome groups, including the UNT Jazz Singers and the One O' Clock Jazz Band.  Oh my goodness...what an amazing band.  The best I have ever seen by far.  Just ridiculous...can't even describe.

I'll try to think of a good story.  Oh!  Me, Mike Polluck, Zach Fitzgerald, Andy Lund, Strappy, and Gravy Boat decided to take a walk to a gas station (like a 10 minute walk) to get some munchies.  Upon arriving there, the power flickered on and off, messing up the cash register (it was a computer).  So...the guy working there (did not speak English well) decided to lock people from coming in so he would not get backed up.  This meant that we were locked inside as well!  We ended up being locked in there for about 15 minutes while Joe Schmo yacked away on the telephone.  It was kind of creepy, and people outside were getting annoyed that they could not enter the building.  We did escape, however, and returned to the hotel.  How awesome.  Well...keep checking out the page as well as the NEW contest happening on the Fun/Games page.  Peace.

Wow!  I haven't been able to get on here in awhile!  Well...as always a lot has taken place!  Both U-Band and Orchestra had a concert go on recently...I was unable to attend either because my life has decided to busy me up.  Eh!  BUT, I was able to check out Jer "Strap" Stober's recital...mainly because I played in it with him.  I have to say that Jeremy is just a very accomplished talented player and that he sounded overall fantastic.  I would also like to give a shout out to Professor "Cap'n Crunch-Berry" Ford, who was very, very, very ill...but still played the snot out of his parts.  We also had Spring Break the previous week in which I personally roadtripped to NYC with my best bud, Will.  It was a lot of fun and I got to see a lot of friends from in-town, as well as from the camp I worked at this summer.

On other notes...hmm...no one attempted the contest on the "Fun/Games" section so I will have to leave it up!  IT'S A WHOLE DOLLAR!  Aren't we college students?!  Anyways, I will try to keep this page up and running hopefully even with my busy schedule.  I'm thinking I need to better advertise this page...hmm.  Peace

Once again...a lot has happened since I last updated this page.  We had a jazz concert, a road trip to KC, and a weekend of fun at Lincoln.  Wow!  Well, I'll keep it short.  I thought the concert went really well.  The crowd was kind of dwindling...but what are you gonna do =)  I had a great time and I think most everyone in the band did as well.  However...Wednesday the 2nd was definitely an amazing day.  Me and a bunch of my good friends (Gravy Boat, Strap-it-on-and-Go, Hot Potato, Wish4sumchops, Farmer Bob just to name a few) took off to KC to enjoy some BBQ and good jazz following school on Wednesday.  It was quite an eventful day for me.  I rode with Gravy Boat (Brandon), Chris Bucher, and Zach Fitzgerald in my car.  I ended up getting lost in a rougher part of town...but we came out alright after some ridiculous amounts of turns and crap.  Well, ordering food was very stressful because you were being yelled at about 50 feet from the counter..."May I heeelp you?!"  It was good though.  Expensive...but good =)

The concert was amazing.  It was different and probably hard to stomach.  But it was Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, and Roy Hargrove with Rob Colley (I think?) and Terri Lynn Carrington on drums.  Wow!  My highlight was Michael Brecker.  Wow!  WOW!  Just an amazing musician..I hated the EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument) until I saw him play.  Well...the concert was great...the drive back wasn't that bad either, Gravy kept me up, so that was nice...but I ended up missing my class the next morning...WHOOPS! =)

The weekend in Lincoln I thought was a great time!  It was long on top of the KC trip, but the clinician for the honor band a few of us were in was great.  Paula Holcomb...she seemed to dig the trumpets too =)!!  It was me, Gravy, Wish4sumchops, and Farmer Bob over the weekend, and I got to see a lot of old friends and get some free meals.  The clinic also went really well on Saturday with Ryun Louie...he is just an amazing player!  Well...gonna fly now!

Well!  A lot has happened since my last update.  I haven't updated for awhile due to the million and one things going on lately.  The UNO Great Plains Jazz Fest went off great.  The guest judges sounded fantastic and it was great getting to know them.  Also!  Bobby Shew was the Ecoutez artist at UNO this Jazz Fest.  For those of you who don't know...Bobby is a fantastic, fantastic jazz and lead trumpet player.  He is also an amazingly awesome "dude".  Some of my greatest experiences this weekend were hanging out and getting to know Bobby, which I'm sure a lot of my peers will agree with me.  His concert tonight was truly one of the best concerts I have ever seen.  The local rhythm section played the crap out of everything.  Just a good weekend in terms of jazz!  We still have plenty of concerts and stuff coming up, so if you want to check us out, check the events page.  Hope life is well for all, keep studying or whatever!

Awesome!  Well, I'm getting this site up and going.  I know it is so nerdy, but I have no regrets.  I am still awaiting info from some trumpet studioites, and I will also be trying to find out some info about some studioites I do not know as well.  I am looking for things to add to this site, both fun and necessary.  I think this site will be fun and I would love any comments or ideas that the 2 people that see this site would like to give me.

The Jazz Band I concert at Abraham Lincoln in Council Bluffs yesterday went great, I thought.  The kids loved "La Fiesta", what an intense piece!  Jonathan Pinkerton's ballad solo on Methany's "If I Could" got a standing ovation.  Our singer sounded fabulous as did the soloists and the 4th trumpet part was probably the best I've heard.  =)  Oh well, keep checking for updates and give me info if ya got it.
