Wanna read some original science fiction? Feel free to read:
"The right hand rule"
"Predecessor"
"Andromeda"
by yours truly.
n of one is Pat Morris.
So what in the heck am I doing here? I surely don't know. . .I'm compelled to do this and that's the only answer I can give. Well, more about me: I'm a bass player, and I find that playing covers is not enough so I try to create music. Playing covers is frustrating, because on the one hand, there is such great music "out there" created by others, and on the other hand, it's really hard to create really good music, so you appreciate much more those that can and feel that much more the sense of loss from those that can't (yours truly included). Beyond that who cares and what does it matter?
So, "n of one" you say? Well, it was either that or "Absolute Zero." And
even though the latter may be true of anything I do musically, it seemed just a bit too self-deprecating, so I opted for the former. So, this is what I
like to do and since you are here, you will simply have to suffer through it all until you get bored and go somewhere else where you will
no doubt be equally bored.
As of early 2005 I'm now in a rock trio currently called "The 3rd." I also post music I write on myspace.

Parents, please be aware that some of these songs contain profanity in
the lyrics. I am a realist - and realistically, profanity is part of our lives. Used contextually it enriches the power of thought. In any case no matter your personal persuasion, if mild profanity in
lyrics offends any visitors at least you know what is up ahead and you can leave the web site at any point you choose. Have a nice day!

Angels - this song is currently posted on the Active Bass web site at in the MP3 section and was written in 2001 for my daughter Taryn and my
wife Brenda. This version was performed on a Fender P-bass (Mexico)
with a BOSS GT 6B effects pedal set on Triad in C Major default with
Reverb and Delay. Reverb set on default setting and Delay set on
Single, with feedback setting at 40 and effects level setting at 40.
The "Glass" effect was also used for the "slow strings" effect in this
piece. The piece was recorded on a Fostex MR8 and then converted from
WAV format to MP3 with MusicMatch software.

Bass Player
(written in 2002). Carvin XB75 5 string
fretless bass and (unfortunately) my voice - that's pretty much it for
this song. I'll redo this some day with some other muscial
accompaniment and some kind of a bass solo when I can think of one -
and when I get better with bass solos. Just email me if you want to hear this song - it's not worth uploading to take up disk space. Click here for lyrics

Evolution
The bass part was written in 2000 and was redone 8/16/2003. I
wanted to make a song that used the bass as the only instrument. So,
the Fieldy track was used for drums, and then two other tracks were
laid down for a low and high melody weaving in and out of root notes,
3rds and 5ths mostly. Slow gear was used for these melody parts with
400ms delay with 40/40 setting on the GT6B with chorus and reverb as
well. On top of that I put down a narrative vocal and some vocal
harmonies at the end of the song. This song has one mild profane
explicative in it at the end, so cover the kids' ears if you listen to
it! Click here for lyrics
Lost
(written in 2002). The human race is so full of itself. We marvel at our intellect as we rape, rob and kill each other. We play happily in this planetary toilet we created and we think that is just fantastic. Sorry, I don't buy it at all. Individually we may have our strengths but collectively we SUCK, and our collective effect is the one that matters most, unfortunately. Instruments - Yamaha DD55 electronic drums, Fender P-bass on Boss GT6B using Fieldy with some chorus and reverb in it. Epiphone 6-string guitar with Dean Markley pickup through the Boss GT6B on Anthony Flange.Click here for lyrics.
MOM
(written in 2002. I owe my mom a song, and
though somber, this captures the feeling (for me) of stability and
anchorage in what could have been a rough childhood for me.) Carvin 5 string fretless wtih Boss GT6B on Anthony Flange at factory settings.
What's
The Point?
Bass part written in 2000, but the song is
a long time in developing. Fourth rough concept draft (Feb 2004). Bass:
Fender P-bass (Mexico) on Boss GT6B "Fieldy" setting. "Lead" Guitar:
Fender Squire through Boss GT6B on Fieldy setting with chorus, flange,
compression and some distortion. Vocal effects were through the Fostex
MR8 digital recorder with a slight delay. WAV conversion to 320 kbs MP3
with a MusicMatch Jukebox on a Dell home computer. Click here for lyrics.
Sean
(written in 2002 for my son, Seanbo). This
is on the Carvin XB75 5 string fretless. GT6B effects are AnthonyFlange
with delay set at about 400 ms, with chorus and reverb to boot. Email me if you want to hear this.
Whale
Dream
(written in 2000). So what do whales dream
about? It would seem a little incongruous to think that an animal with
so much cerebral cortical tissue and so devoted to expansion of the
neopallium to interpret sound would not be in some way also endowed
with enhanced musical prowess. This speculation led me to try to
capture that conceptually in a bass solo done with the CarvinXB75 5
string fretless through the Boss GT6B EFX at Anthony Flange with 1000
ms delay, chorus and reverb. Click here for tablature

Daddy's Home.
This is a song that is partly about my dad, who was an abusive
alcoholic. While parts of the song are true, he never went as far as I
go in this song to expose substance abuse that contributes to spousal
and child abuse. This song is dark and while I wish it wasn't true, the
issue is very, very real and in my opinion needs exposure. Accoustic version coming soon. Lyrics were given honorable mention in Song of the Year contest 2008.
"Who is God?"
