Bass Player
Music and lyrics by Patrick J. Morris, DVM, DACZM as "n of one"
I'm a bass player in a rock and roll band,
I make no money, got no fame, got no fans,
And I know I'll never go far,
With this here bass guitar,
Though I play the damned thing all I can.
Gotta great day job, gotta pretty wife,
Got nice kids, cars that run,
Gotta good life.
Got some time on my hands,
To play in this reject garage band,
All in all, I'm a lucky man.
Got no style in the clothes I wear,
No tattoos, got no funny-colored hair,
Got no needles in my veins,
Got no poison in my brain,
All I need is my bass and a place,
Where I can play.
And on the stage I ain't no rock and roll star,
I can't sing, can't play no lead guitar,
So I hang out on the side,
Don't want my name in lights,
Really I'm just along for the ride.
And when I die, I don't want no motorcade,
No marble statue, no music hall of fame,
Just give my bass to my son,
And then to his son when he's done,
And from there let it go on, and on, and on.
And I wish everyone would write a song,
Black or white, left or right, old or young,
I think music is the key,
To societal harmony,
And without music we won't last,
Very long,
Very long,
Very long,
Very long.
