Long ago in the spring when the cold,
Post-Jurassic world began to unfold,
A seemingly obscure and adept ancestor
Set out to exploit the arboreal biome.
Blessed with binocularity, and tool-using tendencies,
Our prosimian brothers found solace high in the trees.
From these lofty perches they watched as life,
Boiled far below them in the wild
And brutal crucible, That we know as evolution.
And with mother nature's edict going down,
Through selective pressures these primates found
The pathway to survival was paved with
The Stones of Enlightenment.
And so it came to pass that after five million years
Of insidiously slow encephalic growth,
That a new species emerged from the vertebrate melee,
And declared a new order on that glorious day,
With the coronation of the young, high and mighty and terrible human
race.
With limitless power to create, and to wield,
This supreme competitor entered the field,
And in an infinitesimal sliver of time,
Converted that jungle paradise
Into the largest, most conveniently located, amazing and spectacular
Garbage Dump in the entire known Universe.
And so now here we sit,
On top of the heap,
On a pile of shit,
With nothing left to reap,
And now our ears are full,
With echoes of pain,
Five hundred billion monkeys,
Who all died in vain!
And that's evolution,
It's nature's way,
That's how it goes and I've nothing more,
To say!
